“ D on’t tell me there was another tornado.”
The powerful man stood before a magical screen, playing and replaying a feature presentation of a raging tempest. Wind whipping a path of destruction, objects shattering in its wake, it defined nature’s fury, with one stark difference from the twister that brought them together:
This one was inside .
“It is a tornado,” Alexander confirmed the impossible. “One of our young Incantare decided to use a little bit of magic. He destroyed a lab at a major university.”
Everleigh twisted the heavy gold band on her finger, a match to her husband’s ring. “I assume others have viewed the video?”
“I’m afraid so.” Visibly taut muscles tightened. “Scores of scientists have already seen it, including renowned researcher James Blackburn.”
“James Blackburn?” Even Everleigh had heard of the scientist internationally famous for his discoveries. Yet none would compare to uncovering a magical people living among humans. “What are you going to do?”
“ I can’t do anything.” With a wave of his hand, the image froze. “Agent Andrews still contacts me regularly, especially when a good Samaritan makes an anonymous save. To be fair, that good Samaritan is usually me.” The sides of his lips curved. “This is too high-profile for my involvement.”
“We have to do something.” She stepped forward. “Let me help.”
His gaze softened, love and adoration filling handsome features. It swirled around her, warming her with his magic. “You would do anything for our people, wouldn’t you?” His smile widened at her nod. “Yet it is unnecessary. We have our very own scientist.”
Ah, yes. “Kyla.”
“That’s right. Hopefully she will be able to convince Dr. Blackburn – and everyone else – that it was just a hoax. We have a meeting later this afternoon to discuss it.”
The image on the screen vanished, and Alexander turned fully to her. The concern in his eyes eased, and a small smile played upon his lips. So many emotions blazed, and yet one the greatest of all:
Pure love.
Everleigh glided forward, surrendering to the open arms of the man she adored.
Happiness defined her world in the time since they’d married.
As Alexander predicted, the connection between destined soulmates was unlike anything else.
Two paths had merged into one, and his emotions always surrounded her, whether he was present or not.
Neither could be away from the other for long, as they explored each other’s worlds.
In hundreds of candlelight joinings, thousands of delighted conversations, life had become as extraordinary as the relics she treasured.
Learning about the mystical world had been fascinating, but nothing compared to her feelings for the man who ruled them all.
She’d even been able to incorporate a little enchantment – discreetly, of course – into New Age Treasures.
With their shares combined, she was once again leader of the company she’d forged.
The business had soared to new heights, and their corrupt competitor had gotten caught in an embezzlement strategy.
Even the Alaska office was doing spectacularly.
Of course, life with an enchanter was an adventure, filled with true magic.
He showed her a world she never knew existed, and she met so many wonderous people, incredible not just for their gifts, but for their kindness and inner beauty. And now…
A new adventure beckoned.
“According to the morning news, the mysterious rescuer struck again. He saved a busload of passengers yesterday.” She fashioned a stern look, yet no true anger rose. She may not be able to stop the concern every time her hero saved someone, yet she was proud of him.
She’d wanted to don her own disguise and help, yet the over-protective man wouldn’t hear of it.
Some of his brethren were conducting their own saves, however, subtly helping those in need.
It wasn’t blatant enough to prove the existence of magic, yet a sliver of danger remained.
It was a small sacrifice for the extraordinary good they did.
“A mysterious rescuer?” He stroked his chin. “Clearly it is some sort of hoax.”
“Indeed?” She lifted an eyebrow. “Tell me, Mr. Stone, do you believe in magic?”
“Don’t be silly, Mrs. Stone.” His eyes lit with their supernatural glow. “Magic is the fodder of children’s storybooks and fairytales. I don’t believe in anything I don’t see.”
“Really?” She traced a finger down his chiseled jaw. “What do you see?”
He caressed her cheek. “I see a beautiful woman I love beyond imagination. I see a future of extraordinary dreams and endless possibilities. I see my destiny.”
Heat whispered along her neck, his power enveloping her, capturing her. With each day, the connection between them only burned brighter. “You’re not seeing everything,” she breathed. “Look closer.”
His eyes narrowed, slight confusion tinting their sapphire depths. “You do look different.”
“Do I?” She lifted her chin, giving free rein to her emotions, smiling with all the joy in her heart. “How?”
He paused once more. “I’m not sure,” he said slowly.
“I have an idea.” She rubbed his shoulders, smoothed down massive biceps. “Why don’t we ask Madame Narissa, the fortune teller? After all, she did see this.”
His gaze tracked down, stopped, and rose. His lips parted, rare surprise for the powerful enchanter. “Wait – are you–” He lowered his voice. “Are we?”
She lifted on her toes and pressed forward. Her breasts grazed his chest. “I hope you’re ready to chase a flying little one.”
He blinked at her, then his lips tilted up. And then she was going up as he grasped her tightly, gently spinning her around.
She blinked liquid eyes. “Are you happy?”
His eyes turned suspiciously shiny, as he grinned pure elation. “More than you’ll ever know. This is everything I ever dreamed of.” He reached down, cupped her cheek. “ You are everything I dreamed of.”
“And you are my dream come true.” She rubbed her still flat abdomen. “As is this little one. I never knew life could be so enchanting.”
“You are the enchanting one.” He bent down and brushed his lips against hers. The connection that never truly left blazed, surrounding them with love, hope and joy.
“We have a few hours before your meeting with Kyla. What are we going to do now?” she murmured, splaying her hand across his expansive chest.
He smiled, dipped down and brushed her chest. “I can think of a few things.”
She beamed at the man she loved. He may command the enchanters, but she commanded his heart, and he hers. Two destinies intertwined into one…
Forever.
