I smile down at her, then drop a light kiss to her lips. “I’m just glad you agreed. After speaking to your mum and dad yesterday I never expected asking you would be so nerve wracking.”
“You spoke to my mom and dad?”
I nod. “I met them around the corner from our place yesterday morning, instead of going for a run like I said. We talked about the arrangements for tonight and I told them I’d be asking you to marry me after the party.”
“Wow, you really are a traditional guy. I like that.”
When I did the promised American book tour with Katie in the spring, we spent a couple of weekends with her family at their beach house in Southampton. Her mom and dad welcomed me warmly into the family from the moment I stepped through the door. Meeting her brothers again was a little more daunting but a few drinks and laughs together and we were fine. Although each of them did threaten my manhood if I did anything to hurt their little sister.
She looks up at me, her eyes deep dark liquid pools. “I’ll send them a text to tell them I said yes. But first …” She reaches her hands low, her fingers slipping under the hem of the tartan fabric of my kilt, then ever so slowly creeps up the outside of my thighs. I don’t stop her this time. I’m looking forward to her discovering another way that I’m a traditionalist. Like a true Scotsman, there is nothing stopping her from wrapping those fingers around my hard cock.
It’s a long while after that we are lying naked in the large bed, Katie’s body tucked into my side, exactly where she belongs. Her left hand held out above us, with the large princess cut diamond sparkling in the lamp light while she waves it from left to right.
“This ring is so beautiful and fits perfectly.” She places her hand back on my chest, over my heart.
I sigh contentedly. “Aye. It’s your princess ring, and you can keep flashing it around. I want everyone to know your mine.”
She slaps me playfully and I can’t help smiling. It feels like a permanent state now that Katie is wearing my ring.
The last couple of months have been crazy, and the sense of relief washing over me is like being hit by a tidal wave. She said yes. My beautiful, clever, sexy woman agreed to be my wife.
From the first time Katie mentioned her birthday during the book tour in the States, it had me thinking. What do you get the woman who can buy anything? The answer, something priceless. And the one thing you can’t buy is forever love. And I’ve got that in abundance for her.
Organizing the surprise party was big but nothing compared to the proposal. When the idea to buy the cottage came to me, I had my mission, and I didn’t waste any time in setting the wheels in motion. I knew the landlord, Mary was looking to sell this year, and it was easy to make that happen once I let her know it was a gift for Katie. One of her favorite people, she told me. Finding the perfect ring was a lot harder and honestly, gave me more sleepless nights.
I think back to all those sliding doors moments that have bought me from the night on the dance floor when Katie fell into my arms, to this one, right now. I’m a lucky bastard.
Lucky to have spotted Katie on the dance floor that first night, when I’d been on my way out.
Lucky to have her fall into my arms and not some other guy.
But more than anything, lucky Katie accepted my love after I totally fucked up and pushed her away in Cornwall. Definitely one of my stupidest moments.
It’s been a year since Cornwall, and I’m looking forward to returning with her, sometime soon. If it was possible, I’d whisk her off there tomorrow. But I know how excited Katie is to spend the weekend with our family and friends, even more now that she has the news of our engagement to share.
I tuck her closer into my body and begin to slowly stroke my palm over the smooth, soft skin of her arm, then down to her hip. She shivers in my arms. Tonight is just about us and there’s hours still till we need to be meeting everyone for breakfast.
Hours for me to be making love to my bonnie lass, my fiancée.
The End
