Jimmy was down, not moving, and David grabbed Olivia, pulling her out of the room and down the hall. Antonio fumbled with the knotted scarf around my neck.
“Call the police!” David hollered as they ran. “Room 605! She’s being attacked!”
I gulped in air once the scarf and duct tape were free. Antonio righted my chair and ripped the tape off my arms. Before he could say or do anything else, I scrambled to my feet, grabbed my phone and clutch, and sprinted out the door.
Chapter 44
Antonio
“Stop!”Ichargeddownthe hallway after Samantha. Her hair was wet, neck red, and she was far slower than usual.
When I’d seen her on the floor with Olivia on top of her—Marone. Thank heavens. This time, I was there to save her.
“Samantha!” I caught her arm and stopped, spinning her back to me.
She hauled on my grip, attempting to free herself, but stumbled. “I have to go after them!”
“Leave that to the police!”
“Fuck’s sake, Antonio! I’ve left that to the police for the last four months and what’s it gotten me? Almost dead!”
Her eyes flew past me and I turned to see Jimmy stumbling out of the room.
She yanked again and I switched to a two-handed grip.
“Cazzo, Samantha! What do you think you’re going to do?”
“Catch them, just like I caught Parker.” Her face was a mask of barely restrained fury. “So they can’t do this again.”
I squeezed her arms so tight she winced, and I backed off. “You’re not even wearing shoes, woman!”
She looked down, as though she hadn’t realized it. Her breaths came fast and ragged, and she closed her eyes, wavering side to side.
“What—what happened?” Jimmy reached us, one hand to the side of his head.
“David Scott hit you from behind.” Samantha pulled against my grip again. “Let me go.”
“Never,” I growled.
“I need to get changed.” She yanked one more time and freed herself. Three quick blinks, and she tore back to our room, with its damaged door.
I ran after her, no question in my mind that she was about to do something reckless. In the bedroom, she was already ripping her clothes off, changing into what she’d likely worn to the hotel.
So I did the same.
“What are you doing?” she snapped.
“Partners, remember?” I threw the expensive clothes on the floor, pulling on my jeans and sweater. “If I can’t talk you out of doing something stupid, then I’m going with you.”
Jimmy came in. “Leave this to the police, you two.”
“You see, bella?” I gestured to him. “You should listen to your friend. He’s a smart man.”
“They said they’re going to their house for a safe. Probably money and assets to sell. If we’re fast enough, we can catch them. They thought I was unconscious when they were talking about it, so they don’t know that I know.” She focused on lacing her boots up, missing the bow on the first attempt. “Call in backup or not, I don’t care, but I’m not letting them get away this time.”
She threw on her jacket as she sped out of the room, shoving her clutch and phone into her pockets. We charged down the hallway together to the stairs, knowing it would be faster than waiting for an elevator.
“Stop running!” Jimmy called from behind us, but we were already in the stairwell.
