I kiss Devious on the lips. “I love you so much.”

“I love you too,” he whispers, opens his eyes, glancing at me, then around the room. “I’m glad to see your face.” His voice is cracked, hoarse.

He tries to sit up, but I place my hands on his shoulders.

“Take it easy.”

I call the nurse into the room, and she and the doctor walk inside. They check his vitals, and state he is fine so far. He has a bandage over the gunshot wound, covering his chest, and they tell us he needs to rest.

“What happened?” he says.

“Villainous came and rescued us, along with the American Gods.”

“Cashel?”

“He’s locked up in your dungeon.”

He cups my face and runs his fingers over my cheeks. “I never thought I’d see your beautiful face again. I’m sorry it took this long for me to tell you how I feel.”

“It doesn’t matter right now. All that matters is you’re alive.”

He sits up. “Call my brother in here.”

I do what he says and Villainous enters the room. They hug each other for a while.

“I love you, D.”

“I love you, bro. I’m sorry about everything.”

“No, I’m sorry,” Devious says.

What is he talking about?

“You should be able to marry who you want to, and I was thinking too much about myself. I approve your marriage to Maya.”

“You’re married?” I question Aiden.

He nods.

I had no idea that he was married to someone else.

“We need to talk shop.” Devious throws the blanket off of him, pushing himself off the bed.

“Easy, brother. Easy. You have a big-ass hole in your chest.”

“I need to kill Cashel now.”

“Yes, bu—”

“No. Rest, please. Rest,” I say, worried.

“He raped you! Even though he found out the truth, he still hurt you. He isn’t getting away with that. Him trying to kill me isn’t as bad as what he did to you.”

Tears leak down my eyes. I don’t want to face what happened in the hellhole. Not right now.

“I watched him hurt my wife, and you know what’s fucked up? Lex started all of the bullshit. He murdered Cashel’s parents and set me up. That’s why Cashel fucked Shelby.” I flinch at his words. Because it all goes back to her. “Got her pregnant because he thought I betrayed him. Planned to take over my territories. When I begged him to have mercy on my wife, you know what the fuck the bastard did? He fucked her in front of me because he didn’t care. She’s my wife. The motherfucker didn’t care that I love her. He did it to get back at Lex. He made us both watch as he fucked my wife then killed Lex, Aiden. So if you don’t help me get out of here and end his fucking life, then I’ll find a way to do it myself. I’m going to torture him so much he’s going to wish that he were dead.”

The room goes quiet and I wrap my arms around myself. Devious pulls me into a hug.
