“Excuse me?”
“Excuse you? You act as if you didn’t just cut me off to take the parking spot. Lady, if I hadn’t been payingattention, you would have hit me. No way in hell you didn’t see me.”
“Oh please, I saw that spot first.” She eyed me up and down, curled her lip as though she didn’t like what she saw, then threw her chin out and continued, “I’m running late and don’t have time to argue with you. You have a motorcycle, it will fit anywhere,” she said and waved her hand toward my bike and then turned and started walking again.
“Hey, don’t walk away when I’m talking to you!”
“Your parole officer and/or public defender are probably waiting for you. Good luck in court!” she yelled over her shoulder.
“What abitch,” I muttered as I watched her move across the lot, pull the door open, and walk into the building.
Well, she was right about one thing, my bike would fit almost anywhere, especially since her little car was pulled all the way up in the spot. I walked back to my bike and proceeded to position it asclose to the tail end of her car as I could get. She was going to talk with me one way or another.
I grabbed the paperwork out of my saddlebag and headed to the courthouse. As I walked, I rechecked the documents to make sure everything was there. They were in order and the only thing left was to get them date stamped and the deed filed with the clerk.
Fifteen minutes later, I was in the parking lot and relaxed against the hood of the woman’s car. The wait for her wasn’tlong, and since I had cooled off a little, I got to appreciate the look of her when she pushed the door to the courthouse open and stepped out onto the sidewalk. She had a mess of red hair that was piled on top of her head and held in place with something I couldn’t see. Plus, at the distance where I sat, I couldn’t make out her eye color either but her body, now that was a different story.
The black pants looked tailor-fitted and matched the jacket and white blouse she wore underneath. The woman had an air about her. She stopped and pulled a cell phone out of her bag and after punching a few keys, she placed it up to her ear, that’s when she looked up and noticed me. She squinted her eyes and started walking toward me as she talked towhoeverwas on the other end of her call. When she reached me, she mumbled into the phone, then hung up. The eyes that flashed anger toward me were a dark shade of green and set in a classically beautiful face.
Damn, since I hadn’t noticed how gorgeous she was the first time, only showed the degree of mad I had been in. No wayI wouldhave missed this woman the first go around.
“What? Did they not have enough evidence to keep you? And, why is your butt on the hood of my car?” With that haughty voice, I didn’t know if I wanted to turn her over my knee and spank her ass or grab her by the shoulders and pull her into my body and kiss her. I stood from the relaxed position, which brought my body closer to her, and I’d give her credit, she didn’t step back like most would have. Instead, she tilted her head back and looked up at me.
“Drivers like you, are the reason we end up eating the pavement. Ya think you own thef’nroad.” This had to be the most absurd encounter. The woman had pissed me off before. Now, I wanted to get under her skin.
“Seriously? You,” she looked me over again, then continued, “are going to give me lessons on driving because I reached a parking space first?”
“First? Hell, I wasatthe spot when you whipped in front of me to take it.”
“Oh for Pete’s sakes, I do not have time to stand here and debate with you. I have another appointment. Why don’t you get your death machine out of my way?” She moved to go aroundme, and I shifted, blocking her.
“Never been on a bike before, darlin’? You don’t know what you’re missing pressed against your man’s back, the vibration of the bike between your thighs. Maybe I should take you for a ride. It might loosen you up and thaw you out.”
“You are all the same. Everything revolves around your penis. I’m not frozen. I just have taste and respect for myself.” This time when she went to go around me, I allowed it. I turned as she used her remote to shut the alarm off and unlock the door before she reached for the handle.
“Goddamn, is it me or all men? Women like you are the reasonmen swearto never marry or end up filing for divorce,” I said as I walked past her and got on my bike, starting it up. My words stopped her just as she was getting in the car.
She yelled over the sound of my bike, “Can’t argue with you on that—I just picked up my final decree!” Then she slid the rest of the way into her car and started it.
Well...shit.
