Story: Demon Reform Academy, Term 4

PANDORA
I held Nebula’s skull in my hands and sobbed on my bed in my Dad’s manor with my mates surrounding me.
Pure agony reverberated through my bones, and my heart felt like it had been crushed.
Sybil Shaw was dead—but so was my best friend.
“We killed her,” Dex told me, but I couldn’t tear my gaze off the vertical scar that ran down his neck, intersecting with the round scar from his decapitations.
My heart ached worse knowing my mates each wore a scar from the fight with Sybil.
“We avenged him,” Hunter agreed, his hand running through my hair. He’d gotten a starburst-like scar on his shoulder from the tourmalyke blade, and Reed had one similar on his stomach from where he’d been stabbed with it.
“He’s free,” Reed whispered.
“Just like he wanted,” Skel croaked, tears shining in his green eyes that were both framed by vertical scars.
“And he left you part of him,” Bram reminded me. The scar on his cheek curved as he gave me a soft smile. “We won.”
I nodded. “We won, and Nebula’s no longer chained by dark magic. I know he’s better off now. I felt his soul just before I consumed it. He was happy, free .”
“Our future will be bright,” Hunter murmured.
“Just like Nebs said.” Skel swallowed hard, and his Adam’s apple bobbed.
“He was right, you know. The future does look bright for us,” I rasped.
I just wished he’d been part of it.
“It does, but for now, we’ll grieve Nebula,” Reed murmured, hand resting on my leg.
He was right.
Tomorrow, we would face everything we needed to. Tonight, I would grieve the one soul who had first shown me kindness and love.
