“Are you sure?” I manage to pry my eyes open. Keagan has the same blissful expression on his face that he had minutes ago.
“Yeah, I’m sure. Besides, I want you to fuck me later, so you need your rest now.”
I shake my head. The way he talks is blowing my mind.
“I was trying to ignore the attraction I felt for you,” he says softly.
“So was I,” I admit. “I’m not against having fun together, but?—”
Keagan stops me from speaking by shaking his head. “You don’t have to say it. I know this isn’t something major. If anything, it’s probably trauma bonding for me. I’m not expecting more.”
His answer, while being exactly what I wanted, leaves me feeling oddly empty. “It’s not that I don’t want more, I just don’t believe this is the kind of life to bring somebody else into.”
Keagan nods. “I get it. You’ve explained it to me. This was fun, right? A little stress release.”
I nod. “It was nice.”
“So that means we can do it again?” He rubs his hand up and down my thigh. “Because I’d definitely like to do that again, and next time you can fuck me. Would you like that?”
“Jesus, Keagan, you didn’t come across as somebody who would have such a filthy mouth.”
He laughs. “Did you think I was a Boy Scout?”
“Not exactly, but not this.”
He laughs, getting to his feet. “Maybe I’m full of surprises.”
“I guess you are.”
Just minutes later, the doorbell rings, and Keagan flinches.
“It’s okay. It’s the food, remember?”
“Oh, right.”
“Besides, Horrors don’t tend to ring the doorbell.” I wink as I get to my feet.
Keagan laughs. “Good to know.”
I tuck myself in and button my pants as I walk to the door. When I open it, the delivery person is just setting the bag down on my front stoop.
“Thanks.”
He waves as he walks back to his car. I take the bag inside and gesture for Keagan to follow me to the dining room. I set everything out, offering him a sandwich and a bag of chips, andhe digs in heartily, eating for several minutes without saying anything to me.
“I do feel a little bit different now,” he says.
“What do you mean by different?”
He picks up a chip and chews for a second. “I don’t know. Like, that was way more horny than I normally feel. And right now, I’m starving. It’s like I haven’t eaten in days.” He looks down at his food. “It tasted really good too. Like nothing I’ve ever had before.”
“The sandwich?”
Keagan shakes his head. “No. You. Is that because you’re a Soul Chaser or because you’re immortal? Does it make you taste better than regular men?”
I tilt my head. “I—no one’s ever said that to me before. I have no idea.”
“Oh. Well, you do taste better than the average man.” He grins. “The sandwich is fucking awesome too.”
