A smug smile spread across his face, one that I was going to wipe off with my fist or maybe the butt of a gun if he wasn’t careful.
“Go to the car. Our evening is over.” I punctuated each word with a pause.
“Viktor,” she tried again.
My temper snapped. Why did she have to do this? In front of everyone as well. They were all watching, and what they would remember was her in the arms of my enemy. Dipping my shoulder, I lifted her, trapping her against my shoulder like a sack of potatoes with my hand on her sequinned ass.
“Put me down, Viktor.” She wiggled.
In answer, I slapped her ass hard. A woman in the crowd gasped, but I ignored her.
“You seem incapable of behaving, Leah, so no, I won’t put you down. We are going home.” Again, I let mypalm fall onto her butt, partly because she needed to be taught a lesson, but mostly because I loved the way she gasped every time I did.
“What, so you can lock me in my room again, you brute?” she hissed.
Ignoring her, I turned my attention back to the younger man in front of me.
“If you ever think to put your hands on my wife again, I’ll take away your ability to touch anything ever again. Stay away from her.”
Chapter Nineteen
Leah
Viktor was angry, and that was fine because now, I was angry as well.
I’d tried, over and over again. I had tried to be what he wanted, but he kept moving the goal posts, so I kept failing.
Tonight was meant to be different, and now, because of his jealous outburst, he had humiliated me in front of everyone.
I hadn’t done anything wrong. I’d just danced with one of his friends. Had he expected me to just sit alone all night while he talked to his people and ignored me?
Maybe he did. Knowing Viktor, that was exactly what he had expected me to do. From the back of the limo, I could feel his eyes on me and ignored him completely. There was nothing he could say that would take away the sting of humiliation.
He’d carried me from the party over his shoulder. He had spanked me twice in front of his friends and family. That is what they would remember about me.
So, if Viktor wanted me to turn to him, so we could talk, he had another thing coming. The car pulled up the driveway, and each window of the house was dark because no one expected us to be back from the city for hours.
“Leah,” Viktor broke the silence and reached for my hand, but I was already sliding from the car and heading inside.
Behind me Viktor grumbled, and I heard him say something to his driver before he came after me.
“Leah, wait.”
I didn’t pause. Instead, I kicked off my shoes and stormed up the stairs.
Maybe Viktor wasn’t used to being on the receiving end of someone’s temper, but he didn’t seem to be getting the hint. I didn’t want to talk to him.
“Enough of the silent treatment, Leah.” Catching me by the shoulder, he whirled me around to face him. “Why are you running from me?”
The hand on my shoulder was shaking, from anger probably, but I didn’t care. He could be angry if he wanted to be. I was as well.
“What do you want from me, Viktor?” I snapped. His eyes glittered in the darkness, and I met them unflinching.
“What you did—”
Letting out a frustrated growl, I ripped myself from his hand and pushed into my room. “What I did? I didn’t do anything wrong, Viktor. Unlike you.” I spat. “You humiliated me in front of everyone. You made a scene and got jealous. Now, I know you’re going to punish me, and I’ll be locked in my room again, so this is me making it easy for you. I’ll stay here. I won’t leave. Just leave me alone. I would like to bathe and go to bed. As that’s the only thing I’m allowed to do without you throwing some sort of fit.”
Not waiting for a reply, I walked away and headed toward the bathroom.
