“Sorry, my name is Amelia Walker. I heard about the case four years ago concerning Fernando Santiago and Julian Blackwood, and I was wondering if I could meet with you.”
Confused, I looked at Nathan, who looked at me questioningly.
“I know it’s out of the blue, and I understand if you don’t want to meet with me, but I need help. I think we have a copycat inour town. And I was hoping to get more details from you to help the police.”
I swallowed hard and if Nathan hadn’t been holding me, I probably would have collapsed.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, taking the phone from me. “Who are you, and what do you want with my wife?”
There was silence for a moment, and then Nathan became pale, too. When the voice sounded again, I felt a cold shiver run down my spine.
“I’m sorry to disturb you, but when you’re ready, please just call me back.”
Then she hung up.
Nathan cradled me in his arms and kissed my forehead. “You don’t have to do anything that stresses you out. Don’t think about it.”
I nodded and hugged him tighter to me.
“You’re right, but I want to try to help. I promise you I won’t stress or put myself in danger.”
He kissed me again and then rested his head on my shoulder.
“I’ll be there to support you.”
I didn’t doubt that; he was always there for me and I couldn’t have been more grateful, especially in moments like that.
I gently stroked his hair and whispered, “Let’s go. Enzo and Maria are probably waiting for us.”
He nodded and stood up with me. We had things to celebrate today, and I wouldn’t allow this to overshadow that.
And when the time came, I would meet with her. I hoped she could hold out until then.
I will see you soon,Amelia Walker.
