“Did Elaine fucking call you guys?” Liam asks.
“You know she did. She told us you killed Jack. We’re taking you to a location of her choosing.”
Liam and I are placed inside a car. Our hands are bound together and bags are placed over our heads. Then the car begins to move.
I can feel Liam beside me, vibrating from anger but there’s nothing I can say or do to comfort him. Not when I need comfort myself.
The car eventually stops and I’m pulled from the car with the bag still over my head. I have no idea where I am but then I feel something soft underneath me as I’m forced to sit down and my bag is ripped off.
I’m in some dingy basement of sorts. My hands are tied to a chair. A quick glance to my side shows that Liam is in the same predicament as me. His bag is gone too, letting me see his handsome face, which is full of worry. We’re going to die here, I realize.
Liam was just trying to save my life and we’re going to die for it.
He’s trying to tug against his binds but it’s pointless. We’re not going anywhere.
The five guards are in the room, their guns all pointed at us.
Elaine walks into the room with some of Jack’s men behind her. “I said I wanted a trial. You need to suffer for the crime of killing my husband.”
“I killed him because he was going to fuck my wife. I did you a favor, Elaine. You can take over now yourself. You don’t need a man in control of you. A husband who would fuck another woman and not care one bit how you feel about it.”
Elaine nods at one of the guards and he smacks Liam across the face.
“Shut up,” she hisses. “I loved my husband despite everything. I never wanted to see him dead. I just wanted him loyal to me. Now he’ll never get the chance since you took his life. Now, I’m not heartless. We’ll discuss what to do with the two of you. Come to some sort of arrangement.”
Despite Elaine’s words, there’s no kindness in her eyes.
She wants me and Liam to suffer and she’s going to get her way.
Chapter Seven
Irina
“Ipropose an idea,” Elaine says, walking back and forth between me and Liam. It’s dark and dingy in the basement. No windows to let any light in. Since we were blindfolded here, I have no idea where I even am. The longer I’m away from my family, the more I feel like I’ll never see them again.
“We don’t want to hear it,” Liam growls.
Elaine stops. “Why not?”
“Because whatever you’re going to say is not a good idea.”
“Listen to what she has to say,” one of Jack’s men speaks.
“Shut up, Richie,” Liam mutters.
Richie balks and looks to the other men like ‘can you believe this guy?’ “I’m just trying to save your life here. You killed Jack and now you have to pay for it but if there’s a way to do so you come out alive, then that’s a good thing.”
Liam sighs, dropping his head back. “Un-fucking-believable.”
“I want to hear what she has to say,” I speak, shocking everyone in the room. “I want to hear your idea.”
Elaine gives me a dark smile as she stands towering over me. “The Russian slut thinking she gets to tell me what to do? I don’t think so.”
“She wasn’t telling you what to do,” Liam grumbles. “She was just saying she wants to hear your idea. Preferably an idea that gets us out of here alive.”
“You both can live. But she’ll be given to the other men behind me.”
The hope in my stomach is dashed. “What?”
