“It is. He gave me a bottle every Christmas. Said I was the easiest sister to buy a gift for.”
“Duly noted.” He put one hand on her hip to steady her while he leaned over the arm of the sofa and picked up his second gift for her. “This one I want you to actually use. When it runs out, I’ll buy you another bottle.”
“Is it any wonder I love you?” She blinked. “Ah, pretend I didn’t say that.”
He grinned. “No can do. That cat’s out of the bag and not going back in.” He took the shadowbox and perfume bottle away from her and then slid his hands along her legs, from her knees to her upper thighs.
“So you love me, huh?”
She sucked her bottom lip into her mouth and bit down on it as she stared into his eyes. “It’s too soon to be saying that.”
“Maybe. Do you want to know how I feel about you?”
“Yes, please.”
“Okay. Here it is. I believe I’m falling for you… No, I know I am.”
She grinned at him as if he were brilliant. “Falling for each other definitely works for now.”
“And later?” He wanted to back up to where she’d said she loved him.
“Who knows? Maybe I’ll get tired of you.”
“The hell you will.” He flipped them so that she was under him. “Move in with me…or I’ll move in with you. I don’t care which.”
Her smile faded. “What if it doesn’t work out between us?”
“That’s not going to happen, but if it makes you feel better, you pick which place you want to live and we’ll rent out the other one, keeping it as a safety net.”
“Okay.”
“Yeah? Just like that?” He trailed his fingers through the blue streak in her hair.
“Yes, but only if you promise to let me play with your nightstick.”
He smirked. “Baby, my nightstick is all yours. You can play with it wherever, whenever, and however you want.”
“Wow, that’s a lot of evers.”
He stared into her expressive eyes, watched the gold in them shimmer, darkening with desire. “All my evers are also yours, Cara mine.”
“And I promise to treasure them, Gabe mine. Now, about that nightstick…”
He laughed. Again. Damn if he wasn’t the luckiest man in the world.
