“I think we’d be more comfortable in our own home.”

Holden nodded and smiled. “My thought exactly. Take your pick of whatever acreage you’d like. I’ve always planned to build homes for my children here on the place once they married. I put money aside.”

“Thank you.” He couldn’t help being surprised.

“And please stay here after the wedding until your home is ready. I know Elaine would love it, and I would too.”

Holden did look so happy that it made him feel as if this was all going to work out. He and Tilly would bring these families back together. They would end the feud.

As if his father knew what he was thinking, he said, “I’m not buying trouble, but I hope you and Tilly won’t be too disappointed in Charlotte’s reaction or those of other members of both families. It won’t be easy, son, but I’m determined to do what I can. I want you two to be happy. You both deserve that.

“I can see a brighter future for this family,” Holden said, a little misty-eyed. “Why not? We’re going to have a famous cowgirl trick rider in the family.” He met his son’s gaze. “Not to mention grandchildren one day.”

“Whoa,” Cooper said. “One day far in the future. You’re too young to be a grandfather.”

Holden laughed. “You make Charlotte Stafford a grandmother at this age, and you’re really asking for trouble.”

They both laughed as Cooper left to go see his bride-to-be. Just the thought put a smile on his face. He thought his father might be right about that brighter future. Maybe love could conquer all. This cowboy certainly wanted to believe so.
