It’s Alec.

The Boss: I miss you.

The smile that reading those words evokes threatens to take over my whole face. I’ve been missing him these last few days, too.

Still, I set my phone down and don’t respond, crawling into bed instead and trying to get comfortable. I consider reading my book—I still haven’t had time to get past the first page in the final book in my favorite trilogy—but I know there’s no chance I could get any reading done tonight. I’m too distracted right now.

I can’t stop thinking about the night of the charity banquet. I’ve never been with anyone so focused on my needs and my pleasure. I feel a little selfish thinking back about it. Guiltythat neither one of them had, well…finished. But when I’d tried to touch him, Ashton had stopped me, wanting the night to be about me.

I kind of loved that, loved that my pleasure had been the focus. It was certainly a first for me.

My phone chimes again, and, curious, I reach for it. This time it’s an image. For a brief second, my stomach sinks, a sense of dread creeping into my chest. Is Alec the sort of guy to send a dick pic out of the blue? God, I hope not…

Even if, secretly, a part of me maybe, possibly, might be curious about it…

I breathe a sigh of relief when I open the image and am not accosted by unwanted genitalia. It’s a city skyline at night, seen from a tall building.

And it’s beautiful.

The Boss: I’d love to show you Empire City sometime.

I grin, fingers typing out a response.

I’d like that.

The Boss: How was your day, darling?

Good.

I pause after sending it, considering.

Sebastian was in the store all day again.

Three dots appear.

The Boss: Do you want me to ask him to leave?

I think about it a bit before responding. Do I? Sure, he was a dick to me the first day he showed up, but he kept to himself all day today. And Jade won’t shut up about how much he’s tipping her and complimenting her food.

I type out my next message, hoping I won’t regret it.

It’s fine. He’s not bothering me.

The Boss: Tell me if he does, darling.

I chew my lip and hesitate before sending the next message, typing it out and erasing it a few times before I finally settle on the right phrasing. I’ve always avoided conflict, especially in relationships. Somehow, it’s so much easier to stand up to Sebastian than Alec. But I need to say it.

Can you do me a favor? Please don’t actually fire Chase.

There’s barely any pause at all before he answers.

The Boss: Anything for you. And doc already passed along your message.

Satisfied, I set my phone aside, ready to sleep. I roll over. A thousand thoughts race through my head. I roll back. I can’t seem to get comfortable.

In my head, I can hear Alec’s voice. Between my legs, I can feel his tongue.
