Zahra

Z ahra walked inside, closed the door, and touched her lips. The kiss had made her knees weak. A searing wet heat flooded between her legs, and she had an aching need to feel him inside of her.

“What would happen if I opened the door and begged him not to go? Would he walk away from me?”

She was too afraid to find out. Zahra wasn’t sure that she could handle being rejected by him a second time.

They had both been kids her first time, and it had taken her breath away. Over the years, she had touched herself, imagining that it was Josiah making love to her again. Now that they were older, she was certain that it would be even more incredible.

“I at least want to give it a try,” she muttered to herself. “I wonder if he had the same reaction that I did.”

Over the years she had wanted to hate Josiah for rejecting and humiliating her. When he had said those words to her, it had been like he was ripping her soul out. Unfortunately, or fortunately, -- she wasn’t sure which – Zahra had never been able to replace the intense need for him with hate.

There was no way she could hold on to that hurt, now. He was an amazing father to Jace. Plus, he had only become a million times more handsome and sexier over the years.

She slid into the large bathtub full of very hot water. As the water encased her, she imagined that Josiah was wrapping his arms around her and covering her body with his.

Zahra closed her eyes and lifted one of her breasts, squeezing it as she sucked on her own nipple, imagining Josiah’s tongue flicking the hard pink bud. She slipped her other hand between her legs and rubbed her clit.

She pictured his intense green eyes staring into hers, peering into her soul as he nipped and sucked on her nipple.

Heat flowed through her, and she trembled from the intense feelings his image created. She switched breasts and licked her other nipple as she rolled her clit between her thumb and forefinger. Zahra leaned back, her eyes closed, as electricity flowed through her.

The hot flames between her legs intensified. Josiah’s intoxicating scent filled the air. She moaned loudly and began to tremble and hot creamy liquid poured out of her.

When she caught her breath and her heart stopped racing in her chest, she had the same reaction as she always did. Zahra was satisfied with the sexual release, but she was disappointed because it wasn’t Josiah. He was nowhere to be seen except in her fantasies.

She picked up her book and read until her water got cold, although she had a hard time following the storyline because every word seemed to be Josiah.

When she made it to bed, she pulled one of her big pillows against her and wrapped her arms around it, wishing that she was lying in bed with Josiah’s arms holding her tightly.

The sun woke her early the next morning. Groaning, she rolled out of bed and got ready for the day before heading to the kitchen for coffee.

Zahra wrapped her hands around the cup and stared into space. “I can’t keep doing this. There has to be some way to banish him from my thoughts. My fascination with Josiah is consuming me. I’m not some love-sick high school girl anymore.”

Resolved to push him out of her mind except when directly interacting with him, she grabbed some energy bars and headed out to Conner’s and Beth’s horse ranch.

Beth welcomed her with a smile.

“Did Jace behave?”

“He was an angel. The babies were all over him, and he was very gentle with them. Right now, Taryn is teaching him how to ride.”

“I know he’s loving that. He’s always been fascinated with horses. I’m just worried that he might take after his uncle. Right now, though, he’s certain that he wants to be a medical examiner. His hero is Ducky.”

“Mine, too. I cried when David McCallum died. I even watched The Man from U.N.C.L.E. ”

“All of the good actors and actresses are slowly fading away. I’m not overly enthralled with most of the new ones.”

“Me, either.”

Just then, Jace and Taryn rushed into the room. Taryn was a beautiful thirteen-year-old who was an incredibly mature, smart, young woman. According to legend, she was one of the most powerful witches in the world. In spite of that, she had a quick smile and enjoyed being a kid.

“Taryn was showing me all kinds of tricks. She’s a real witch, but I can’t tell anyone. That would put her, Aunt Beth, and the babies in danger.”

“That’s right. I know that you can keep a secret,” Zahra said, hugging him.

“Can I come over again real soon and hang out with my cousins? I love them. Uncle Conner and Aunt Beth are pretty awesome, too.”

“How do you handle the two babies being a witch and wizard?” Zahra asked. “It was all I could do to keep track of one shifter pup with no magical powers.”

“It can be crazy some days. There are times when toys magically appear in the house. Their temper tantrums sometimes make me feel as though we’re haunted by an angry poltergeist. Luckily, Taryn is helping me teach them to control themselves.”

Taryn grinned. “Aunt Savvy, Mom’s best friend, has two wolf shifter pups who are witches, too. Uncle Rory has a houseful of people that can help her, though.”

Jace and Zahra left after lunch. She already adored her sister-in-law and little nieces and nephew. They were pretty terrific.

“Mom, can I have a horse?”

“I thought you wanted a motorcycle.”

“I changed my mind. I’m allowed.”

Zahra laughed. “I’m sure that Aunt Beth and Taryn will let you ride whenever you want.” She paused. “You aren’t going to change your mind about being an ME and follow your uncle’s footsteps and follow the rodeos, are you?”

“Nope. I’m allergic to pain.”

“Me, too, Little Man.”

They went to her mother’s house for the afternoon and had dinner there. Zahra was all peopled out by the time they got back home.

She stopped and stared at the box that was lying on the porch.

Maybe it’s from Josiah, she thought, although something in the back of her mind told her that it wasn’t.

Jace took a shower and she carefully opened the box on the dining room table. There were twelve long-stemmed red roses and a note.

I will make you love me, Elias.

Her heart stopped and she couldn’t breathe.

“How did he find me so quickly?” she whispered to herself.

Her hands were shaking so much that she could barely pull her phone out of her pocket and press the speed dial for Zac’s number.

“He’s here,” she said softly, trying to keep her voice from quivering.

“Who?”

“Elias – or at least one of his guys. I found some roses and a note from him on my porch when Jace and I came home from Mom and Dad’s tonight.”

“I’m going to call Sebastian. You know he owns that security company and they have the latest technology. Keep your doors and windows locked until he gets there.”

A half of an hour later, there was a knock at the door. She peeked out the window and saw the tall, muscular man standing outside of her door. A fierce looking woman stood beside him.

“Sebastian, Callie, please come in.”

“Zac called. We have a great security system for you. We’ll get it put in in no time.”

“Thank you.”

“Mama, is everything alright?”

Jace’s green eyes were wide with fear as he looked at Callie and Sebastian.

“Yeah. These guys are just going to put a security system in for us to help us be extra safe.”

“In the middle of the night?”

Zahra laughed. “It’s only eight. They wanted to wait until we got home.”

Jace looked at the roses on the table and looked back at his mom. “Who are those from?”

“No one important.”

He walked over to the table and picked up the card. “Elias is the Alpha from the pack in St. Theresa. Why is he sending flowers?”

Zahra wasn’t going to lie to him but didn’t want him to be afraid. “He wants me to go through the mating ceremony with him and is trying to make me love him.”

“You can’t love him. You love Dad.”

Sebastian grinned. “You have a smart boy.”

Groaning and rolling her eyes, Zahra replied, “Sometimes too smart for my own good.”

It only took an hour to get everything installed. Sebastian showed her and Jace how to use the system and what the codes were. He also gave her his direct line. Callie did the same.

Callie smiled at her. “I’m a dragon shifter, so I can be here even faster than Sebastian or any of the other people. Just call me. I’ll be here. Your wolf shifter won’t stand a chance against me.”

“Thank you. Would one of you guys take the flowers to the hospital or nursing home? I hate for them to be wasted. It’s not the flowers’ fault that they were sent by someone with ugly intentions. They should be put to good use.”

“That’s very thoughtful,” Sebastian said. “I’ll drop them off on my way home.”

After they left, Zahra set the alarm. She went around the house again, making sure that all of the windows and doors were locked, even though she knew Sebastian had just done that.

Jace was no fool. He knew that something wasn’t right, and he was afraid. His eyes were huge and all of the blood had drained from his face.

“Mom, is he going to come here and hurt us or force us to go back to St. Theresa?”

“No, Baby. Sebastian and Callie put in a security system that will go off if anyone tries to get into the house. You heard Callie. She’s a dragon shifter and will be here lickety-split. She would turn anyone trying to hurt us into crispy critters. Sebastian, Uncle Zac, and Uncle Conner will watch over us, too.”

“What about Daddy?”

“He doesn’t know about this yet. I don’t want him to worry. Grandpa and Grandma don’t, either.”

“You don’t want me to tell them.”

“I wish you wouldn’t.”

Jace sighed heavily. “Okay. I can keep a secret. I think Daddy should know. He’ll help protect us.”

“I’ll tell him soon,” she said. “Now, let’s get you to bed.”

He finally relaxed enough that he was able to sleep after she reassured him several times that they would be fine.

As she lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, she just wished she believed that.
