Something’s wrong. Something is so very, very wrong.
My heart pounds in my chest as I yank on my seatbelt, trying to move closer to her, to fucking help her but the fucking thing won’t move and it doesn’t help my vision is still fucking fuzzy.
I hang there for what feels like an eternity when, suddenly, a pair of hands are wrapping around me, attempting to calm my flailing limbs.
“Hey, hey, try to calm down. It’s okay. You’re going to be okay.” I don’t know where the voice is coming from, but it’s okay. It’s okay. Someone’s here. Someone’s going to save Holley.
“Pl—plea—please sa—save my sis—sister,” I manage to spit out as my body begins to go limp.
No please. Stay awake! Fight this! Save Holley!
“Okay, let me go check on her.”
The hands that were around me disappear and they don’t come back for a while it feels like, but everything is so heavy. My eyes close as the familiar feel of nothing overcomes me, but I force them to stay open and right as I do, that’s when I feel the strangers' hands again.
“H—how’s Hol—Holley?” I rasp. My head swims, but I focus my eyes and they land on a face. Now that I can somewhat finally see him, he begins to cut my seatbelt with some sort of pocketknife.
“An—answer me.” I focus on his face, forcing myself to stay awake. I need to know Holley’s okay. His eyes tighten and a grim look covers his face, but he doesn’t answer me.
“What’s your name?” he asks me instead while still cutting away at the belt pushing against my torso.
“Essa Mon—Monroe. Wha—what’s wrong wi—with Ho—Holley?” I ask again, desperation leaking into my tone even more. I need to know how she is, that she’s okay because the need to drift off to sleep is beginning to overwhelm me and it doesn’t help that all of my blood is rushing to my head from being upside down for so long.
“My name is Dominik Reed and I’m going to help you. You’re going to be okay.” He continues to saw away at my seatbelt, but the black cloud swarms and I need my answer.
“Is Holley okay?!”I scream with all of my might. My throat and chest scream in pain from the force I use and tears fall down my face as dread fills my body. The look on his face is one I never wanted to see. Not in a thousand lifetimes.
“I’m so sorry, Essa, but she didn’t make it. I just have to focus on saving you now. I’m so sorry.” Tears run down his face as he jerks his arm harder, almost through the seatbelt.
No.
No!
No!
HOLLEY.
Come back to me Holley!
Stars, bring her back to me! Bring her back to me! Bring her back to me!
This is the worst fucking nightmare of my life. I have never wanted to be awake so desperately.
I sob as I repeat those words over and over in my head like a mantra.
This is a nightmare, a horrific nightmare.
The stars will bring her back to me and everything will be okay.
My body hits metal as I drop from where my seatbelt had me trapped. My head smacks against something hard and then… nothing.
