“No, don’t be. It’s what felt natural.”
“I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”
“I’m not.” She stands and makes her way to my bedside. “Austin, I’m sorry for how I acted.”
“Tessa, it’s okay. I may have been overbearing and super protective. I should’ve just let you tell me what you needed instead of just doing everything for you.” I take her hand into mine and she releases a sigh of relief.
“Do you think we might try again, but this time have better communication?”
“I’d like that,” I state. “Where do we start?”
“Maybe we can start by sealing this with a kiss.” She leans towards me, and our lips are within millimeters of each other. “I love you, still,” she whispers.
“I love you, always.”
Our lips touch with a peck, then hers part slightly, inviting me in for that sweetness I have missed. It deepens and feelings that were nearly buried resurface.
The break between us reveals bright beams of happiness.
“What are you smiling for,” Tessa asks.
“Your lips taste like sour gummies.”
She pulls out her bag of candy from her purse. “I had a few in the hallway to help keep me calm. You want some?”
“Yeah, I do.” I remove the sweets from her grasp and sit them on the bedside table before pulling her closer for another kiss.
