I laughed. “Ok.”
Frankie had managed to drag me a few steps towards the bed when we heard crying.
I turned and lifted our baby into my arms, patted his bottom and decided that he was either hungry or just wanted to be held.
“Now now Charlie,” Frankie said, holding out his arms and taking our son from me. “You need to let your papa get a bit of sleep.”
“Does that mean you’re taking the night shift?” I teased.
“Is that what you wish?” Frankie asked with a grin.
I laughed and leaned over our son to kiss him. “You’re such a dork, my Genie.”
“And you’re a capable thief,” he retorted. “After all, you stole my heart.”
“I get to keep it, right?”
“It’s yours.”
“Good, because I love you.”
He smiled and gave me another kiss. “I love you too.”
I pulled back and leaned in to kiss our son’s head. “I love you too Charlie.”
“I lubs Papa,” Frankie said in a squeaky voice, waving one of Charlie’s fists.
I laughed, then skipped around Frankie and jumped into bed. “You’re on night shift,” I declared. “I pumped. Milk’s in the fridge.”
Frankie laughed. “Sleep well, I’ll join you once I can get him down again.”
“Looking forward to it,” I said, pulling the blankets over me.
Frankie leaned in for another kiss, then walked off to find out if Charlie was hungry.
I let out a contented sigh. I had the perfect job, an amazing mate, and now we had our first baby.
Fate had given me a life I absolutely loved, and I couldn’t wait to see what else was in store.
