A fter showering, and a quick blowjob, because once was never enough, Ryan drove us toward downtown Sacramento. “Where have you been to down here?” he asked.

“Well, a few places to eat, and like I said, I’ve gone to a club here before.

But mostly I’ve been to the old town area.

Everything has changed since I was here last,” I said and tried to figure out exactly where we were.

The arena came into view, and I leaned across the car to get a better look.

“I haven’t been here since they finished it. ”

“The arena? It has been a while since you’ve been here. I thought we could try one of the places nearby, then maybe we can hit a club,” Ryan said.

“Yeah, I guess it has. It was nearly done the last time I was here. It’s exciting to see it all finished.”

“Wait until you see the restaurants nearby. It’s a fun place to hang out.

Lots of variety and any food you can imagine.

” He drove past the arena and turned into a parking garage.

Parking was always an issue, but this was just far enough away we could explore nearby without walking too far away from where we’d be eating.

Ryan found a parking space on the third floor, and we rode the elevator down with a few other people that were discussing where they’d eat.

“There’s an ax throwing place. We should go there,” one of them said.

Ryan’s eyes met mine, making me smile and grab his hand. “We should go check that out. What’s the name of it, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“I’m not sure, but you can’t miss it. It’s a big gold, metallic building,” another of them said.

“Thanks, I think we’ll check it out,” I said, and Ryan took out his phone.

By the time the doors opened, he knew where it was and led us in that direction while we slowly made our way along the busy street.

We were closer to the arena now, and it really was a great setup.

Lots of restaurants nearby, many with outdoor dining, plenty of places to sit, and open spaces so it wasn’t too crowded when an event at the arena let out, and more than a few bars to grab a quick drink or a bite to eat.

“Come here,” I said and pulled Ryan in close enough to take a selfie in front of the arena.

He was so fucking cute. Every single time I looked at him I was reminded of the first time I’d seen him sitting on that bench eating a cookie, and every time I thought about that my heart thumped in a way that was both exciting and a little scary, but I liked it.

“Oh, that must be the restaurant. Come on, I reserved us a table through my phone.” He grabbed my hand and tugged me along the crowded sidewalk until we were at the door. It was like the person in the elevator had said, a large gold building, and the smells coming from there were amazing.

“Barbecue?” I asked and drew in another deep breath.

“Oh yeah. I haven’t had good barbecue in a while.” We walked in and Ryan gave them his info before we were taken directly to a table. As soon as we were seated, a loud thwack rang out nearby.

“That’s the ax throwing cages. Did you want a different table?” the server asked and held the menus, waiting for one of us to answer.

“I’m fine with it,” I said and hoped Ryan felt the same. “I’ve never been to a restaurant that has ax throwing.”

“This is fine,” Ryan said, and we both picked up the menu they’d left. “It smells so good in here. What sounds good to you?”

“Everything. I think I’ll get the combination plate so I can try a little of it all.”

“That’s a great idea. We can order a flight of beers too if you want to sample some of the local brews,” Ryan said while still looking at the menu. “It’s too hard to choose. I think I’ll get the combination plate too.”

The server came back to our table with two glasses of water and took our orders. “Oh, and I want to throw an ax. How do we do that?” I asked.

“If you can go right over there and talk to Jay, he can tell you how busy it is. If there are too many people ahead of you, he’ll take your name and put you on the list,” the server said before hurrying away.

“You stay here, and I’ll go see how busy it is,” I said as I slid out of my seat.

“No way, I want to see it too,” Ryan said, and we walked over to where the server had directed us.

There were two long alleys that were divided by a short wall topped with mesh wire to the ceiling.

The outer walls were solid, which it turns out was on the other side of the wall where we were seated.

One alley was occupied, and a man and a woman were taking turns throwing axes at a painted target on the wooden wall at the end.

They made it look so easy, and so fun. “What do you think?” I asked Ryan.

“Oh, I definitely want to try it,” he said and walked over to the man seated at the entrance. “Can we get on the list?”

“You can go now if you’d like,” he said, and Ryan had his card out and paid before I had a chance to even reach for mine.

“I’ll give you a quick lesson, then you’re on your own.

” He walked into the alley and picked up an ax that was lying on a table near the entrance.

“You want to always remember to face the target and follow through.” He held the ax with both hands and after hefting it over his head, he flung it toward the target and stuck it in the bullseye. “Who wants to try?”

Ryan walked up, did exactly as the man had said to and promptly stuck the ax in the bullseye.

He spun around and raised both arms up in victory and laughed as he jogged back to me.

“It’s easy, now you go,” he said and crossed his arms as he watched me choose an ax.

I held it in both hands, lined it up, followed through and—missed.

The ax clattered to the floor and was so loud I expected someone to yell to keep it down.

“You need to follow through,” Ryan said.

“I did,” I said and chose another ax. This time I shook off the tension, and reminded myself this was just for fun, it wasn’t a competition. Once again, I tried, and once again the ax clattered to the floor. Warm arms wrapped around me and Ryan’s lips at my ear brought me back to the present.

“I can give you private lessons if you’d like,” he whispered while pressing his body against mine.

“I think I need it,” I said, making us both laugh.

“Let me show you how it’s done.” He stepped up and threw all three axes perfectly into the center. He dusted off his hands, walked up to me, and pulled me in for a big kiss. “Come on, I’m starved.”

I wasted no time following him. Wherever Cookie went, I’d follow, even if he did kick my ass at ax throwing.
