Page 70 of Conjure
My heart gives a hard thud, and I hold my breath as he crawls forward like a lion on the prowl. The muscles shift in his arms as he comes for me, his eyes heavy.
“Dominic?” I ask nervously.
He hovers inches away from my lips. We lock eyes, and I steal a quick glance at the spot where his T-shirt hangs open to reveal a hint of his carved chest. His pulse flutters visibly in his neck, and when I raise my gaze, he tightens his sharp jaw, demanding my attention with every ragged exhale. I reach up to brush his damp hair away from his brow, and he holds his breath. I hold mine too, flicking my eyes between his.
Then his lips crash down on mine, and he kisses me like I’m the oxygen he needs to breathe as he pulls me down on the seat.
This kiss is different from the previous ones. It’s more than a promise and something far more intimidating than a threat. My toes curl as he delves his tongue into my mouth and groans.
“Camryn,” he exhales longingly, stroking his fingers down the length of my jaw. I shiver, sliding my palms up his chest over his wet T-shirt.
“Dominic—”
He swallows his name on my lips, then sucks on my tongue as he rolls his hips. My mouth dries up when his hardening length digs into my thigh. I cling to his shoulders while he trails kisses down my throat and chest, all the way to my tank top’s hem. He slides it up over my chest and pushes my bra away, too, before wrapping his enticing lips around a nipple.
Groaning deeply, he sucks hard. I gasp, digging my nails into his muscles.
“Tell me about that night.” His warm breath whispers across my nipple as he peers up at me. “The crash.”
I meet his hungry eyes, watching him trail kisses to my other nipple. His tongue darts out to circle the hardened bud, giving a warning bite that makes me shudder.
“What happened?” he asks, sucking the rosy bud into his delicious mouth and swirling his tongue until my toes curl inside my ruined Chucks.
“Your brother was in the backseat on his phone. Your father asked me about my dancing.”
He peers up at me from beneath dark strands of his damp hair, and it’s a struggle to speak coherently when he sucks and nibbles like he’s on a mission to make me come from nipple stimulation alone.
I swallow down a whimper. “I saw something in the road.”
He pauses, my nipple slipping from between his lips. “Saw something?”
“Someone—a man. Ah, fuck…” I moan as he swirls that expert tongue. “A man in the road.”
“And?”
“Your father lost control…” My words drift off when he pinches my other nipple. “But there was no one there.”
He looks up, his eyebrows pulling down low.
“I saw someone,” I clarify, “but he disappeared.”
“He disappeared?”
“Like a ghost.”
Twirling my left nipple absently, he palms my other tit and delivers a hard blow.
I yelp, entrapping him with my thighs around his narrow waist.
“You saw a ghost.”
I can barely speak. “Yes…I think so.”
“Then what happened?”
It hurts to relive the memories, but he’s determined to dig them all up.
Unable to meet his fierce eyes, I stare at the ceiling and swallow down the ache spreading throughout my chest. “The car careened into the river. Your brother… He was already dead.”
