Sordello: Did you notice anything odd about Stuart Peterson at that point? Maro: [ Shakes head ] Stu? No. Nothing. Sordello: Josh Tatum? Eisa Heaton? Norman Heaton? Maro: No. None of them. Analysis Note: As instructed, at this point, Special Agent Beatrice Sordello reached into a box at the side of her chair and retrieved several files. She placed them in the carrier of the pass-through between both sections of the Manfred booth but didn’t slide them through to the subject. Maro took note of the names (which matched the people she’d just asked him about) but otherwise disregarded them. He settled back in his chair.
Maro: Could I have a glass of water? Sordello: You’re thirsty? Maro: Yes. [ Silence ] Maro: Is that some kind of problem? People get thirsty. Sordello: How often do you get thirsty? Maro: What the hell kind of question is that? [ Silence ] Sordello: I’ll have a bottle brought to you. While we wait, I want to know what you pieced together about Hannah Hernandez and Daniel Jones. Do you know what happened to them? Maro: [ Nods ] Sordello: We’re capturing audio and video, but it’s best you speak to ensure we have an accurate transcript. Maro: I know what happened to them. Sordello: Even though you weren’t with them and didn’t personally encounter either of them through this entire ordeal. You know what happened to them? Maro: [ Nods, then seems to recall previous instructions ] It’s just like I knew what happened in the Heatons’ kitchen, even though I wasn’t there. Same with Ellie at the library. Sordello: But you don’t know what happened at the Tatum house? You don’t know whether Josh or Lynn killed the children? [ Silence ] Analysis Note: Slight spike in Maro’s blood pressure and oxygen intake. Unclear if this is deception or something else. His baseline readings do not appear to be atypical. Along with the files for Hernandez and Jones, Sordello added Edgar Newton and Arwa Gilmore. She hesitated with Malcolm Mitchell, then dropped his folder in there, too.
Maro: I could really use that water.
