“With the way we used to fight, I can’t believe you want another one of me around.”

He chuckles once. An endearing sound in Everleigh’s ears.

“You’re right. I don’t know what I was thinking.”

Leaning back, she pretends to be offended, her eyes narrowing at him.

“You know that I’m kidding.”

“I know.”

“And, sweetheart? I want a ton of little yous running around.”

“You mean that don’t you?”

“With every fiber of my being, I love you.”

“Thank you for loving me even when I tried to push you away.”

“Dragons couldn’t keep me away, baby.”

Everleigh sighs into Brooks’ arms, his tight hold giving her the protection she has always wanted, but could never find.

And as they fall into bed that night, she can’t help but imagine how different her life could have been had they not had that one drunken night in Vegas. The tequila washing away her fears and hurt, letting her attraction for Brooks take over.

Brooks is her strength, her solace, and her soul. But most of all he gave her back those missing pieces of herself that had been stolen away.

She nuzzles her face into his neck as they lie in bed together, their hearts beating rapidly as they come down from their explosive love-making.

“Brooks?”

“Yeah, sweetheart?”

“I’m so glad I stopped fighting you.”
