Taylor looked over the letter that Ivy had already read.
It was indeed from an attorney from her grandparents, and they were both dead.
Not that she’d ever had anything to do with them, wouldn’t even know them in a room full of people, but they had named her in their will, and there were several insurance policies in her name that she could cash them out.
Also, with the will, they said there would be a house and other things that they wanted her to have.
“No explanation on why they were bothering with me after all this time?” Ivy told her that they might well have mentioned it in the will, but they’d have to wait for that. “I wonder if they left my mom anything. I mean, not that she deserves anything right now, but I wondered about it.”
“It says there that they didn’t mention their daughter Gilda Jane because they had done so much for her before they left her in the care of your father.
I believe from what the letter says, they regretted that and the fact that she’d had a child.
Not because they thought you’d be wonderful but because, as a child, you’d have to be subject to her oddities.
” Taylor snorted and asked her if she thought that her mother had oddities or was just a bitch.
“For now, I’m going to say oddities. And you have to admit that she is about as odd as it comes. ”
She’d been hearing from the prison daily.
Not to talk to her mom, no, they knew better than that to have her talk to her mother.
It was how she was getting along. Or in this case, how she wasn’t getting along with the guards or the other prisoners.
She was demanding they care for her, and it wasn’t going over well.
“I’m to understand that she’s not having a good time in prison.
She’s been put in solitary confinement since she’s been there.
Just to keep her safe. It’s probably a good thing that you said she wasn’t to call you anymore, or I’m betting she’d be on the phone to you a great deal.
” Ivy told her that she was happy to take the calls for her, as that’s what she can help with.
“So far she’s not changed one bit while there, but she’s only been there for two weeks already. ”
“It’s been nice not having to have her call me every ten minutes, too.
I don’t feel the least bit bad about her being sent away, either.
She did this to herself. Or her parents did it to her, I can’t decide who to blame.
” She looked over the paperwork again, and Ivy let her.
There was a great deal of information in the letter from the attorney, and they’d only touched on a few of the things.
“How much money are we talking about here? Not that I need the money, but it might be nice to donate it to some cause that would piss my mother off with.”
They both laughed, and she told her how much there was.
It was a great deal of money at half a million dollars, but like she said, Taylor was worth billions, and she’d not miss that money if she donated it.
She suggested that she divide it up into a couple of charities and be done with it. She said that’s what she’d do.
“Also, I want to help out my brother-in-law. Now that Colby has met his mate, I want to help him out. I know that they’ve just purchased a house to live in, and it’s devoid of anything but a bed or two.
” Ivy was excited about her brother having found his mate, too.
Of all of the Tucker men, she loved Colby the best. He was such a good man.
“Maybe I can get them a line of credit at the furniture store so that they can get everything they need. Can you make that happen?”
“I can and I will. I know that between the two of them, they have a little money saved; his fishing boat trips are making some great profit for him. But they really need a hand up on their home. Have you seen it yet?” Taylor said that she’d not, but was looking forward to an invite to the house.
“Us too. With the new baby coming along now, we’ve been going out a lot more so that we can be a family again when the new one comes. ”
“I’m so excited about having Denver’s child.
We’ve been practicing a great deal about making one for us.
” Taylor laughed, and Ivy felt her face heat up.
She didn’t want to know that about her brother and his wife.
But then Taylor had always been outspoken, and it suited her just fine to be with her today.
“Anyway, when the time comes, I’m going to be at your doorstep to learn all about having a child with him.
It’ll be nice that they’re all going to be so close, being cousins and all. ”
“I just hope that Emma and Colby can work things out with each other. They’re learning a great deal about each other, which is good.
All Hudson and I did was fight right up until we were married.
I know that Emma has been having trouble being centered with the two of them so far apart all the time.
Perhaps the house that they’ve gotten together will help out with that. ”
“There are times when I know just how she feels about being off. She told me that just a touch from Colby and she feels so much better. I hadn’t realized that’s what happens with us, too.
A simple touch and I’m better for the day.
I think that’s true of humans, too, but I don’t know.
They seem to fight to the bitter end, humans, I mean.
” Taylor nodded and said that’s what she’d been feeling too at the beginning of their relationship.
“I think we all do that. Just a small touch or a kiss, and it’s like the world has balanced out for everyone. ”
They talked a bit more about the paperwork.
Since the attorneys were going to come to her about the reading of the will, they only needed to set up a time to do it.
And since Gilda Jean wasn’t mentioned only to say that she was getting nothing from the estate, there was no reason for her to be bothered by the attorneys when they came to town.
It was funny to her that the couple, Gilda Jean’s parents, had moved to Ohio, where things had started for the foundation.
On her way home, she decided that they needed to have a meal in tonight.
Asking Hudson what he wanted her to pick up, she wasn’t surprised that he asked for Chinese.
That was her favorite, too, and they could get enough for leftovers for her to take to work tomorrow.
She had him order it, and she would pick it up.
The man would know what she loved besides him and get all her favorites along with his. She loved Hudson so much.
When she went by to pick up the diapers that were needed at home, she only had to wait another twenty minutes for the food.
Hudson was the stay-at-home dad, and she loved working at the foundation.
Not that he didn’t work there as well sometimes, but so far her working outside the house was giving them both pleasure like they’d never had in their work and home life like never before.
They’d always been living paycheck to paycheck before, with having to pay for child care and working too.
This was working out so much better for them both, and they rarely fought about the silly stuff, too.
Not really fight, but snip, she supposed.
After dinner, almost too full to move, they put the kids to bed and sat in the living room talking about the family.
Hudson was going to take the kids over to the grandparents’ tomorrow and hang out while helping with the new rose garden that Denver was helping put in.
Thanks to Colby learning how much they missed everyone, they were now spending time with them more than they had before.
The elderly couple had done so much for the family that they hated to think about the time when they’d want to move on to the next step of their life voyage.
Going up to bed later than usual, the two of them checked on the children and made their way to their own bedroom.
It was a wonderful night, and she couldn’t believe how much she’d enjoyed her day.
Being an attorney had been all she’d wanted as a child, and now that she had the opportunity to be one, she was the best that she could be.
Snuggling up to Hudson, she realized that this baby she was carrying was going to have all the things that the others hadn’t, simply because they were happy and had money now to burn.
All her life, she had wanted children to go along with her good-paying job, and now that she had both, she couldn’t believe her luck.
Nothing could have prepared her for the love that she had for her little growing family, and she couldn’t have been happier than she was at this moment.
Kissing Hudson good night, she went to sleep with a smile on her face.
The next morning dawned rainy and dreary.
But with her heart full of love and understanding she didn’t see the puddles of rainwater nor the dark clouds that were hanging over the house.
She could only see the goodness in the day and was whistling when she got to her office.
Working for the foundation kept her busy, but it was the lovely perks of getting to see her family throughout the day that made her feel good.
The first thing she did was pull up her email.
Having gone through it, she then got her phone messages together and sorted them out.
Still having a wonderful day, she answered the correspondence with a smile until she got to the one from Ronin.
He wanted her to call him as soon as she got the message.
