Page 40 of Claimed by the Savage Dragons
‘I’m taking her ass next,’ he announces.
Her eyes fly to his, and she starts shaking her head.
I scowl at Brax who doesn’t look anywhere near as sheepish as he should.
‘I think we’ve taken enough for now,’ I mutter, hoping my voice doesn’t sound as shaky as I feel.
She winces a little as I stare at her. The human that my dragon thinks is our mate.
‘We’ll make sure you’re readied for that first,’ I promise her, but I see that my words haven’t made her feel any better.
Brax’s eyes narrow but he doesn’t fight me.
‘Her mouth then,’ he says. ‘Little rabbit? I won’t take your ass until you ask me to, but will you let me have your mouth?’
She stares at him and so do I, though her expression is full of trepidation and mine is surprised. He doesn’t usuallyaskfor anything. He takes. He’s known for it.
‘I’ve never done that before either,’ she says, holding his gaze.
‘I can teach you.’
She hesitates.
‘The more we pump you full of our scents, the faster this will go,’ he reminds her.
The urge that slams through me to go to her, to calm her fears, is almost too much to ignore, but I somehow turn away and stagger to the bathroom, leaving Brax to do what he’s going to do anyway.
I look into the mirror and seehiseyes staring back at me. It’s as if we were never divided.
How is this possible?
The dragon gives me nothing, but I feel him now in ways I haven’t since we split, ironically also over a female.
The two sides of us are so close. I yearn to reach out.
But instead, I ask the question. I ask it now aloud before we get too intertwined again.
‘What happens if we lose her?’
He doesn’t have an answer for me.
I glance down at my now very human dick and bark a laugh.
How the fuck did you do that?
I can feel his snort of amusement.I still have some tricks you don’t know about.
I look back in the mirror and let out a long breath.
What made you call her mate? You never even called Fiona that.
Even thinking the name of our wife makes my heart hurt, but I find that the feeling is muted. The bone-deep desolation that used to come from him is curiously absent, and I realize how much his emotions must have been influencing me in my day to day life.
I frown a little at the realization that he was able to cut me off from him completely, yet could still affect my decisions without me knowing it.
Fiona was loved, but she wasn’t mate.
I scoff at him. ‘Mari is human as well. She can’t be a mate.’
