T he Disappearance of Henry Mathers

By Kara Paige

April 23

Kara : Hello, Mr. Mathers. So good of you to make this meeting.

Mathers: grunts .

Kara: You weren’t at the championship game. You weren’t on the ice, in the stands. Records show you were a healthy scratch. Want to weigh in on why you weren’t there for the most important game of the season?

Mathers: I had other things to do.

Kara: Other. Things.

Mathers: stares back

Freya: Honey, you’re being difficult.

Kara: Would it have anything to do with your nuptials?

Mathers: That’s none of your business.

Kara: pinches the bridge of her nose What are your plans moving forward? Will you be training in the spring?

Mathers: Yes.

Kara: shuffles papers Moving along… Rumor has it there’s a secret society called Ravenwood at the academy, and that you are a Legacy. Care to –

Mathers: Look, I’m not into the conspiracy theory bullshit. If there was a secret society, and I’m not saying there is, but if there was, I wouldn’t want to be part of it. I don’t like what they represent. I don’t like alleged rituals.

Kara: I heard Jensen Ackerman was part of the society. And that you put him in the hospital.

Mathers: Yes, well, if Jensen learned not to touch things that didn’t belong to him, he probably wouldn’t be in the mess he’s in now.

Kara: Do you think you skipping the game is going to affect your standing with your team?

Mathers: shrugs I’m not concerned.

Kara: You’re incredibly unflappable.

Freya: And humble.

Kara: Is there anything you want to say before we wrap this riveting interview up?

Mathers: I’m proud of my team. They stepped up when I couldn’t be there. Morgan’s the best coach, and the team deserved everything.

Kara: And you, Mr. Mathers?

Mathers: looks at Freya I got exactly what I wanted.
