Enough

A listair

I will not tolerate any of this shit anymore. I march my woman back into her brother’s house and into the kitchen. I can hear him talking softly to his wife, but they stop the moment they see us.

“Motherfucker,” Luke curses lowly. “You need to leave. Now.”

“You’re hurting her,” I say.

“And you’re going to break my arm?” he challenges, standing. “Wasn’t that the threat.”

“It was. And I meant it,” I say flatly. “But this is something different. I won’t let her choose me. I won’t hurt your family.”

I pull away from Skye, the hardest damn thing I have ever done in my entire fucking life. She looks at me and I can see her heart break in front of my eyes. I want to hold her and make it all better, but I can’t. I can’t fix any of this because I am the one who broke it.

“I’m sorry, baby doll,” I say softly. “I never should have let this happen.”

“What are you doing?” Luke asks.

“I’m leaving.”

“You can’t...” Skye cuts in.

“I have to.” I cup her face in my hands. “You deserve more. Better. And one day, you will have that. Luke is right, I never should have touched you. I can’t take it back, but I can do the right thing now.”

I walk out, listening to her heart-rending cries. I listen as her heart breaks, and still, I walk away. Outside, I jump in my truck where Zeus is waiting for me. He stares at the porch then at me. He is waiting for Skye.

“She’s not coming, bud,” I say scratching his ears.

I start the truck and drive away. Away from my heart and soul.
