She buckled her seatbelt and grinned at him. “Ready?”

“When you are.”

She put the car in gear. It zipped along. “Oh, this little guy has some pep. It needs a name.”

He laughed. “You won’t believe this, but apparently, Grover named his cars, too. This little guy has a name.”

“Tell me.”

“Kermit.”

“Kermit?”

He shrugged. “I guess because it’s green, like Kermit the Frog. And because Grover’s name was, well, Grover. You know, like on Sesame Street.”

“Kermit.” She rolled it around on her tongue. “It fits. I’m keeping the name.”

He smiled. “What about your name?”

“What?”

“Are you going to keep Khan as your last name when we get married?”

She gave him a wide-eyed look. “Of course I am. Are you keeping Hayes?”

“I haven’t decided yet,” he told her in a serious tone.

She pulled out of the garage and sped down the street. “I can’t always tell when you’re kidding.”

“Tell me about it, Ms. Anchovies and Eggplant.”

She giggled. “I guess we have years to figure out one another’s tells.”

“A lifetime,” he answered.
