“Is it weird for you?”he asked, his voice huskier than it had any business being.“To watch TV as an actress?Does it feel like work for you?”
“No, it’s not weird, it’s fun.”I pulled my legs up to cross them under the blanket, and my knee grazed his thigh.“I probably do see it differently than someone who’s never been to set.But I love seeing how other people tell their stories, and I think about what I’d do if I was given that role. And there are all the elements in the background that most people don’t even realize is part of the narrative but fill in so many blanks.”
He looked at me, and the light from the big screen danced in his dark eyes.“You love your job.”
“I do.”
“No wonder you’re going stir crazy stuck here with me.”He grinned.
“It’s not you.”I sighed, and our legs were against one another.“What about your job?Do you love it too?”
He stretched, and somehow, he was even closer.
“I do,” he finally said.“I love that it’s never the same thing twice and that I get to take care of people.”
“You like the danger too.”I chuckled.
“Maybe a little.”He put his arm around me, and I had to remember to breathe.
“This job must be driving you crazy,” I managed.I needed to play it cool.Make a quick decision about what my character traits would be in this unexpected role as Beau’s girlfriend. But there was no script, no crew, and no safety net.
He shook his head.“I like keeping you out of trouble.”
My mouth dropped open.“Trouble?I haven’t caused any trouble.”
“Because I kept you out of it,” he said smugly.
“Well then, I take it back,” I said, only conceding because I liked having his arm around me way too much.“I guess you are good at it.”
He scoffed.“It hasn’t been easy.”
“Those are fighting words.”
His grin was absolutely wicked.“Maybe it will be easier to keep you in line when I’m your fake boyfriend.”
This bear was too much.“How do you think you’re gonna?—”
I didn’t have a chance to finish my question, because Beau’s lips were on mine, showing exactly how he was going to do things.I melted against him, taking his face in my hands, loving how soft his beard felt under my touch. How sure he moved, coaxing my mouth open, inviting himself inside. Our tongues tangled, and his hand was in my hair, and his warm body pressed against mine.
Reality melted away.It would be really easy to forget why I was in Sawtooth Forest, and what waited for me in the shadows. It didn’t matter what role I was trying to play.Nothing was fake about the way this bear kissed me.
ChapterTwelve
Beau
I’d fantasized about what it would be like to kiss Kayla Mitchell so many times, but the reality of doing it blew it out of the water.Heat rose from her body as her lips danced against mine, light and playful. She gripped my biceps, guiding me as she tightened her hold.Rewarding me with moans.
It took everything I had to break the kiss.My bear immediately craved more. Now that he had a taste of her, he’d never be satisfied.
Kayla blinked like she’d just woken up from a dream. Her lips were swollen, makeup smeared, and her hair was wild.I could barely keep myself from going back for more.
“I thought I might have to give you some acting lessons.”Her voice was husky, and she punctuated the statement with a throaty chuckle as she dragged her finger under her bottom lip.“But it looks like you’ve got plenty of experience.”
I raised a brow, trying to play it cool.“Maybe there’s a role for me onThe Wolf’s Moon.”
My bear groaned with frustration. It had been the perfect opportunity to tell her that I hadn’t been acting, that the things I felt for her were anything but fake.
“Maybe.Or maybe I’ll need a full-time bodyguard.”She shrugged playfully and then turned toward the TV.“I have no idea what’s going on in this movie anymore.”
