The Wedding Day
I shouldn’t have been nervous, but I was.
Ninety days flew by, but it also seemed like time stood still. I was about to marry the love of my life, and three months ago, I didn’t even know she existed. It was crazy how the world worked.
There were days when I wished I’d met Finley sooner, but there were other days when I wouldn’t change anything about how we came together.
“You ready for this?” Von asked as he dusted off my shoulders.
“Been ready. Had Pops not made me stick to the original date, she and I would have probably gotten married during that two-week period we were stuck in the house.”
We laughed, but we both knew I was serious.
“Well, she is bubbling over with excitement and nervousness, so the pacing is good.”
I nodded because Finley deserved to be doted on today.
The ceremony was small with just fifty guests.
Immediate family for both sides and the board of directors for Diamonds & Moore.
My parents, who should have been in here with me, were roaming the halls, making sure everything was perfect.
No matter how much I told them to relax, they couldn’t.
Also, Kashia had ditched me for Finley, which was wild because normally, I couldn’t shake her.
My family loved Finley just as much as I did, and they wanted this day to be perfect for her too.
“I can’t wait to see her. When she suggested we spend the week apart, I should have stood my ground and told her ass no.”
“Now you know you wouldn’t have been able to tell Finley no. Hell, if one of us do, you take it personally,” Karter said, smirking at me.
“Whatever. Can you please go get your parents? I need yo’ mama to pray over me before I head to the altar.”
Karter bobbed his head and bounced out of the room.
I thought about the last few months and how not much had changed.
Kashia was thriving at the Kingsland Boulevard.
location, Von managed all three properties and kept up his duties at the control center, and Karter was on his way to being a daddy.
Never in a million years did I believe that there was a woman out there who would have me anxious to marry her, but leave it up to Him to place Finley in my path.
Our meeting was unorthodox yet perfect for us.
There was a knock on the door, before my mother stuck her head in.
She came into the room fully and swiped at her eyes.
“You’re getting married today, baby boy.”
I pulled her into me, and I squeezed her tiny frame.
“I am.” I wiped her tears, using my thumbs. “We knew I’d be here regardless of who met me down the aisle, but I’m glad it’s her.”
Ma opened her mouth to speak, but Karter’s cell phone rang, and I cut my eyes at him. He showed me that it was Finley, and my irritation was replaced with eagerness. Karter answered the phone, spoke to her for a second, then handed it to me.
“Kairo, I’m going to FaceTime you, but give me like five seconds before you answer. You can’t see me yet, okay?”
“Baby girl, it’s already our wedding day. I don’t know why I still have to wait.”
“Stop fussing and agree.”
I did as I was told and waited for the ringtone for the FaceTime. As instructed, I waited five seconds, then accepted it. When the FaceTime connected and the screen cleared, my knees buckled slightly.
PREGNANT
“Finley?”
“It’s a surprise, so you’ll have to keep it a secret for a little while. Now, get to the altar! It’s almost time for me to make my grand entrance.”
Finley laughed and disconnected the call.
Peace settled in me as I realized it was time for me to marry the woman who owned my entire soul.
This started out as a planned arrangement, but from the moment I saw Finley White, soon-to-be Moore, .
. . I should have known that things would never be that simple.
THE END .
