Maria just laughed.

Bryce slung an arm around Ridge’s shoulder, grinning. “He’s working on things with his own girl, but she’s…prickly.”

Kane said, “No progress?”

Ridge frowned. “Both of you owe me a drink. I said don’t mention Amelia.”

Maria chuckled, but not much, because Ridge seemed like he might be genuinely hurt by this woman and her reluctance to see how he felt about her. Whoever this Amelia woman was, Maria hoped she was ready for what happened next.

She looked at Kane, then at his cousin. “I can tell you honestly that it’s worth the wait. No matter how long it takes.”

Kane hugged her from behind, his chin on her shoulder.

“So don’t give up.”

Ridge mouthed thank you.

Across the room, Tucker stood. “Can I have everyone’s attention, please?”

They all turned, and the music shut off.

“It’s been a long hot summer, and we’ve been through the fire. Some of us literally.”

A quiet chuckle moved through the crowd.

Tucker continued. “But in every moment, God was with us all. His amazing grace sustains us and brings us home.”

Someone yelled, “Amen!”

Maria said quietly, “Amen.”

Kane kissed her cheek.

Tucker lifted his glass. “Let’s party!”
