“Well, hold on. It’s going to continue to change. Nell told me she’s expecting again. And with Liz pregnant, that’s two more grandchildren we’ll have.”
“I still wish there was some way for Nell and Clint to move here,” I said.
“Yeah, I’ve talked to her about it, too. I think it’ll happen someday.” He reached across the table and took hold of my hand. “I love my family with you.”
“Me, too,” I said. Gazing at the presents we’d purchased, I knew the real gifts we had to share were not things but feelings.

The next morning, Iawoke to a blustery day. The sun was out as promised, but a wind had come up. I thought of Caro’s wedding and was grateful she and Henry had chosen to get married inside.
I wanted to get to the hotel to make sure our Saturday wedding guests were leaving and to see what Sunday wedding guests had arrived. Because Caro’s was an evening wedding, we had time to smooth out any problems. Lorraine and Laura had put together a spreadsheet that Rhonda and I would follow.
Vaughn was in the kitchen when I walked in. “Hi. Is Robbie still sleeping?”
“He’s starting that stage of sleeping in,” said Vaughn. “Cindy and I have already had a run through the neighborhood, and now she’s back in bed with him.”
I grinned. Our boy was growing up.
Vaughn and I took our cups of coffee out to the lanai to discuss the day’s activities.
Satisfied that everything was in order, I got up to leave.
Vaughn stood and drew me into his arms. “I’ll see you later, at the wedding.”
We kissed, and as I left the house, I recalled our wedding day. It was such a euphoric time. Hopefully, this is one wedding that’d go off without any complications.
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
Idrove through thegates of the hotel and came to a stop. Men dressed in black stood outside talking to Bernie and a security guard. It took me a moment to realize that Amelia Swanson must be coming to the wedding.
I drove on, hoping the vice president’s appearance wasn’t going to be a problem.
When I went into the kitchen, Rhonda was talking to Consuela.
“ ’Morning!” I said, and I gave them each a quick hug.
