“You fucking bitch!” Amedeo roars, straightening as he lifts his gun, pointing it at Luna’s head.
My protective fury ignites. I’m not armed because that was the deal for getting into the warehouse to see Luna, and I know I’m taking a risk I wasn’t meant to be taking as I charge the bastard. But I can’t let him hurt her.
Guns go off almost instantly. Pain radiates through my shoulder, but I’m a machine and I don’t give a fuck. Riding high on adrenaline, I slam my fist into Amedeo’s nose, and it explodes, blood going everywhere. Thank fuck I’m not alone. I’m here with some of my most fearless soldiers. And outside, my men are in position to help us, including all of my brothers and Roc.
But I still need a gun.
I get Amedeo’s from him, stripping it with ease, and point it between his eyes.
He snarls. “You fucking Andriani scum?—”
I pull the trigger, and he goes silent.
Then I’m on Luna. I put her behind me and edge us to the wall, shielding her from the hail of bullets that’s erupted. Everything is a blur. I take aim and get off a few rounds, dropping some of Amedeo’s goons to the floor. My men are spilling into the warehouse. I catch sight of Saint and Scorpion, Lucky hot on their heels.
Nothing is going according to plan, but somehow, we have the upper hand.
“When I say run, you need to get out of here,” I tell Luna above the din of battle.
She doesn’t answer, so I take the risk of a quick look over my shoulder.
She’s glassy-eyed, in shock.
Fuck.
Another bullet whizzes past me. I find the bastard responsible and end him before looking back to her.
“Look at me, baby. You’ve got to get out of here. It’s not safe.”
“I…I… You’re bleeding.”
I probably am, but that’s not what matters now. I need to get her out of this hellhole so that I can finish what we started.
Around us, bullets keep going off, men dropping. A Revello soldier is lying on his back, choking on his own blood, grabbing for a pistol with bloodied fingers. I shoot him without a second thought.
A strangled sound emerges from Luna, and I know she’s not going to be able to move out of here. Not without someone taking her. Someone I trust with my life.
“Saint!” I call out to my brother. “I need you to get Luna out. She’s in shock.”
He’s on us in seconds. “Done.”
The gunfire has thinned, and Amedeo’s men are retreating deeper into the warehouse. They’re outnumbered, outgunned, and their leader is lying dead on the floor in a pool of blood.
I turn back to her. “Go with Saint. He’ll get you to Rocco. Wait for me in the G.”
“Matteo,” she protests on a sob, tears shimmering in her eyes.
I kiss her, swift and hard. “Listen to me. You need to go. Now. They could be doubling back, getting more firepower. I need to know you’re safe.”
She nods, and Saint wraps an arm around her, using his larger form as a shield. He nods to me, they disappear out the door into the night, and I go back to what I’ve always done best.
Killing.
But this time, it’s for her. It’s vengeance for what was taken from her, for what was done to her.
And this time, I have something to live for other than power and money.
I have Luna.
