Sonya
Ishould have left well enoughalone.
Finally settled into my private suite at the far end of the floor, I took a shower to unwind from the long day of travel. After that, I should have found my pajamas, opened one of the bottles of wine in the generously stocked full-sized fridge, crawled into the room’s king-sized bed, and taken a nap.
That didn’t happen.
I threw on a tank top and sweat pants, and sent the vampire down the hall a text. Yes, I needed to apologize for my outlandish behavior, but I could have waited until Angel and Axe were here.
I should have.
The apology by text was bad enough, but no, I had to play with fire by agreeing to go to his room. Now that I stood outside his door, about to close my slightly stinging fingertips into a fist to knock, I took a breath, tamping down my thoughts of Vincent Belmont as my mind raced. I groaned, rubbed the bridge of my nose and knocked on the door. I was utterly hopeless, entertaining all manner of salacious ideas about him for some unknown reason.
And that was another thing. Why was he on my mind at all? The insistent image of my palm at his neck should have reignited my rage, but instead, it only spread heat through my core and left me craving him. Could the rumors of vampires being able to perform mind control be true? If it were, it could mean all these scandalous urges were his doing. The very notion had me seething.
With a defiant huff, I took another bracing inhale and turned on my heels. Before I took the first step to return down the hall, there was a noise behind me.
“Leaving so soon?” he murmured.
I glanced over my shoulder at the unreadable expression on his face. “It was a mistake to come see you.” I turned to face him and took a step back from the door. “I wanted to apologize, but now I’m thinking you’re the one who should be apologizing to me.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“And that apology would be for what exactly?”
“Admit it. You used your vampire hoodoo on me, didn’t you?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Don’t play innocent. You did some kind of mind control on me back in the limo.”
“I’ll humor you for the moment. What exactly did I do to you? What I mean is, what was the outcome?”
Heat flushed my cheeks and neck as I struggled to find the right way to tell him he’d managed to stir up a powerful longing inside me. How exactly was I supposed to phrase it? That he’d compelled me into a state of total arousal and now I found him to be sexually irresistible? I fumbled for a response, and came up empty-handed, merely blinking at him.
“I would love to know what that mind of yours is thinking right now,” he muttered. “Care to come in anyway? Standing here in my doorway feels so … formal.”
“Thanks, but I don’t think so. Any more time around you is probably harmful to my health.”
“If you say so, but for your peace of mind … or perhaps not … you should know that I did not perform any mind control tricks on you. Whatever you’re thinking or feeling is of your own volition. Sorry to disappoint. ”
Aww crap.
This was all me?
I huffed out a frustrated breath. “What exactly do you want from me?”
“You’re the one at my door, so I believe the appropriate question here is what can I do for you, Sonya?”
“I … I, uh … I was …” For whatever reason, this fogginess in my brain had me confused as hell.
“You … what?”
His body floated toward me, and he took a step forward until he was achingly close to me, closer than he should have been. Every molecule inside me resonated in its awareness of him. I itched to retreat, but there was another urge, an impulse to tackle him to the ground and let him ravage me until I was screaming his name.
