“We do sir, and you will be pleased to know that Wren actually took a test this morning that was positive, she’s even got the morning sickness to go along with it.”
“I do extend my sympathy for the morning sickness. That cannot be easy. Seems that I owe you another congratulations. I do need to tell you however, that a home test is not a legal proof of pregnancy. You will need to have a blood drawn test for accuracy.”
“We thought that might be the case Mr. Hansen, so I had Hudson swing by the hospital here first and we had the test done. The lab will be calling us with the results as soon as they are read. She can also email the paper results for your records.”
“You are both very efficient. I don’t think Mr. Benson Rivers will be able to support his case against you. I wouldn’t know what else he could produce. He is also one generation younger than you so you are the older heir. Besides, the will clearly states that the entirety goes to you as long as you fulfill both requests by the deadline and you have.”
“There was a deadline?”
Wren looked to Hudson for an explanation but he only shrugged.
“Oh yes, Mr. Rivers, he was a staunch man. Cut and dry to the core.”
A knock came at the door and the secretary peeked inside.
“I’m so sorry Mr. Hansen, the call you’ve been expecting is on line two.”
The couple moved to stand and Mr. Hansen stopped them.
“No, you two stay, I’ll just run next door quick and take this call. Won’t take but a few minutes so make yourselves comfortable. There is a mini frig on the back wall with water and sodas, and snacks in the cabinet above that.”
He disappeared out the door.
“Why didn’t you tell me there was a deadline with the stipulations of the will?
“I don’t know actually. I wasn’t hiding it on purpose; it just never came up. The deadline isn’t anytime soon either, it’s still another six months away. I just kept believing you when you told me everything would work out the way it should, and it is. I’m sorry I won’t keep things from you anymore.”
Hudson’s cell phone rang at that very moment and he answered it right away .
“Yes this is Hudson Rivers, Wren is right here beside me. Oh, oh yes okay, thank you very much. Yes that would be great, thank you again.”
He clicked the phone off and laid it on the chair beside him.
“Well, it’s official, we’re going to be parents. The lab is emailing the paperwork to Mr. Hansen as we speak.”
“Hudson that’s wonderful.”
She leaned over and wrapped her arms around his neck. Everything else was going to fall in to place perfectly, just like it should.
The End
