SERENAI
Serenai sobbed, her shoulders shaking with the force of her tears. It was all so unfair! She’d been so sure that the big half- Kindred had come back for her because he remembered their love. Instead , he had some half-baked story about a Goddess telling him to come back. He? —
“Do not weep, Daughter . All will be well.”
The warm, feminine voice made Serenai’s head jerk up but there was no one there. Still , she felt a presence surrounding her—a feeling of comfort, as though someone had wrapped a soft, warm quilt around her shoulders.
“Who…what…?” she began, gulping back a sob.
“I am the Goddess your male spoke of—the Kindred Goddess ,” the female voice told her. “ I feel your pain— I bear it with you.”
“Well, that’s nice, I guess.” Serenai sniffed and swiped at her eyes. “ But can you help me? Can you make Brax remember that he loves me?”
“I can only advise you in this matter for a warrior’s heart and mind are his own,” the Goddess told her. “ But I will tell you this—sometimes the body remembers better than the mind. You may bring back his memories through touch and taste even if talking has failed.”
Then the room was suddenly empty of the warm presence…but somehow Serenai felt comforted. She blotted her eyes on the bedspread and sat up, considering the Goddess’s words.
Slowly, a plan began to form in her mind. It might work…or it might not. But either way, Serenai was determined to try it—she wasn’t giving up on her man without a fight, she decided.
She was going to take a chance and hope that she could bring back the memories the curse had stolen.
