ROWAN
"Are we going to live here or… what's our plan?" My words surprised me. Especially since we were still lying in bed together. We were both in the center of the king-sized bed. I instinctively curled around Trev while we slept. He didn’t seem to mind.
Early mornings were for cuddling, not for serious conversations that we'd been avoiding
"Do you want to live here?"
"Honestly?"
Trev pushed himself up on his elbow and gazed down at me. His hair was a mess of curls and his cheeks were unshaven. He was shirtless, and the scars on his chest were an array of white and pink. My gaze slid over them, and my fingertips followed. He was no longer hiding them from me, as he often had when we first met.
"I always want you to be honest with me. About everything. If there is something we disagree on, then we should talk about it. I don't want you to hide from me or feel like you can't talk to me about things."
I believed him. His words gave me the confidence to say what I had been thinking for the past few days. "I love the mansion, and I love my family. Getting closer with them has been the silver lining to that whole kidnapping thing."
"But?"
"But I didn't grow up in a mansion with staff and people everywhere. I most certainly didn't have a torture room."
Trev snorted at that. "Who says we have a torture room?"
I shot him a look.
He smiled. "All right, fine, we have a torture room. Possibly more than one."
"I'd like a small house. Couple of bedrooms. A master suite with a double sink so we can brush our teeth at the same time."
"Oddly specific, but I like it."
I trailed my fingertips over his temple and down his cheeks. His lips sought out the palm of my hand and he kissed it. "I just need you there. I don't need all this fancy stuff."
"Is one of the bedrooms going to be a library?"
I grinned. "Maybe. We could even have a basement outfitted with a gym for you. I know how you like to use the one here.” Over the past few days I had watched him work out more than once in the massive gym Andro had. That was a sight I wouldn’t mind making a regular occurrence.
Trev’s lips pursed as he considered my words. He had always been protective of this family and the Ferrini business, but it was clear that he understood my desire for something more simple and intimate.
Finally, we were having a mature conversation about our future together, one that had been brewing beneath the surface for some time now.
“I want that too,” he said. “We may be here more often than not, but a space all to ourselves would be amazing.”
I grinned. “Great. So I can finally share the listings I’ve been saving!”
Trev let out a laugh, and his head dropped so that his nose was buried in my neck. He nipped over my bite mark, and my body instantly responded. “What am I going to do with you?”
“I have some ideas–” Before I could voice them out loud, Trev’s phone rang.
He got up and grabbed it. The bed instantly became cold now that he was gone.
“Andro, is something wrong?”
I couldn’t hear the other end of the conversation, instead I took this as my cue to get up and start my day. I had house tours to organize on top of the homework I had to finish.
After a moment, Trev followed me into the bathroom. “That was Andro. Dr. Nindy is waiting for us in the hospital room.”
I raised a brow. “So soon?”
“Apparently after you ran out of dinner, he made some calls. They all had the same thought that we had–you’re likely pregnant.”
I bit my lip. “It's morning. If I was sick, wouldn’t I have morning sickness?” I didn’t wish to get my hopes up only to have them dashed when the tests didn’t come out the way we wanted them to.
“Let’s talk to the doctor before we make any assumptions.”
Dr. Nindy was an omega pregnancy specialist whom Andro had on the business payroll. According to Joey, once he became pregnant, Andro went overboard preparing their home for prenatal care and the birth.
I suppose the investment paid off, since five Ferrini babies had been born in the house. With no signs of slowing down, since Joey was expecting his second and I had a feeling Connor wouldn’t be far behind.
“Welcome,” Dr. Nindy said as she opened the door to the hospital room. She wore teal scrubs and her dark hair was pulled back into a tight bun.
Trev put his hand on the small of my back as we stepped into the second-floor bedroom turned hospital room. It had once been two rooms with a shared bathroom, but the wall had been removed to open up the space. The light blue walls made the space warm and inviting, and the large hospital bed at least looked comfortable. There was a rocking chair and sofa as well.
“Do you have any questions before we get started?” she asked.
I shook my head. “Can I do a test? I don’t know for sure if I am pregnant, and I just want to know.”
She smiled, and the kindness in her eyes set me at ease. “Absolutely.” She grabbed a box off the counter and handed it to me. “Take this. The bathroom is over there. Follow the instructions. You can wait for the results on your own, or bring the test out here for your mate to see with you.”
Trev gave me an encouraging smile, and I went to the bathroom. Excitement and trepidation warred inside of me, making my stomach churn.
The test was easy enough. Once I was done, I put the cap on the test and held it so I couldn’t see the results window. I left the bathroom.
Trev stood from where he was sitting, his eyes hopeful but reserved.
I held the test out to him and pinched my eyes closed. “I can’t look. You tell me what it is.”
“Are you sure?” he asked.
I nodded, keeping my eyes closed.
He took the test from my hand, and I waited with bated breath. “Well?”
“There’s two lines. Which I assume means positive?”
My eyes flew open. I had neglected to bring the instructions with me, so of course he didn’t know what he was looking at. “Yes. Two lines is pregnant.”
“Then we’re pregnant.” Trev’s grin widened, his white teeth flashing brightly.
I leapt into his arms. “Holy shit!”
Dr. Nindy laughed. “I thought that might be the case. You Ferrinis seem to be a fertile bunch. Hop up on to the bed. We’ll get some vital signs and talk over what your care will look like.”
It didn’t take long for her to do the exam. It was too early for an ultrasound, but I was able to get my prenatal vitamins and set up my appointments for the next several months.
I laced my fingers into Trev’s as we walked out of the room. The two of us were on cloud nine knowing that we were taking the next step forward in our lives.
