Kelly stared at Xerses. “Will your brothers be there?”

I’d forgotten that she’d mentioned she liked him. If my friends became my real family, then I’d be even happier.

Xerses said, “We’ll be there, but we might be late on Friday.”

Roman laughed. “Xerses is being nice. We decided to move Ziff and Lauglin to the portion of the company that’s not being bought.”

My old life. I hadn’t heard those names in weeks, but I was glad about the decision. “So, they’re downsized but not fired?”

Roman said, “Avril, you’re a sweetheart, the best worker on the floor according to our data, and we figured they’d get whatever they deserved without our interference, but Xerses and I are against bringing them into our company, so we worked out a compromise.”

I hugged Kir.

Britney held up her champagne. “Cheers to the happy couple.”

I hoped she would find someone who made her happy too. We all drank again. Then I said, “Thank you, everyone.”

For once, I had my happily ever after, which was strange to think about. I’d never believed in the idea, but I wasn’t stupid. Life with Kir was the best because we were in love, and that truly was all that mattered.
