“Guess we’ll have to build up another appetite once we’re done eating.”
Reaching out, I pick up a strawberry and dip it into the maple syrup.
“No one’s coming here, right?” she whispers.
I pause. “No.” I shake my head. “It’s just you and me.”
Her chest rises in a soft sigh, her shoulders relaxing.
I glide the strawberry along her plump lip. “Open up,” I order.
CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
Samantha
My feet slap the wooden floor as I rush to the freezer. Movement to my left makes me jump.
I chuckle, my hand resting on my chest over my fast beating heart.Relax, Sam.I roll my eyes.
My reflection blinks back at me from the deck doors. Wide-eyed with ruffled hair and Kaleb’s shirt hanging off one shoulder, I look thoroughly fucked. The man certainly kept his word of making me forget anything but us.
The world outside the cabin is drenched in darkness. The only thing I can see is the kitchen mirrored back at me.
Nothing exists but this cabin. We’re in our little bubble where no one can see us, no one can judge, and no one can disagree.
I push away the pain of doubt.
Pulling open the freezer, I dig for our midnight snack, smirking when I wrap my hand around it.
Looking back at the stairs, I listen for movement but don’t hear anything.
Grabbing a spoon, I drop down in front of the freezer, hidden behind the kitchen island. Chuckling, I go in for the first bite.
“Hmm,” I moan, closing my eyes.
“I know that’s not the caramel.”
My eyes open to find a very serious Kaleb before me. Hands on his hips, he glares down at me.
“Samantha.”
“No,” I say with a mouthful of ice cream, stretching out my leg to kick away the lid with Caramel written in big red letters across the middle.
Kaleb purses his lips. “Do I believe you?” he asks himself, tapping a forefinger to his chin, his eyes in the air. His head snaps to me. “No.”
My scream turns into a laugh when he lunges for my legs. Pulling my ankles, he drags me across the kitchen floor. Laying on my back, I chuckle as he moves me from in front of the freezer.
Dropping to his knees, Kaleb looms over me, his hands framing my hips. “It’s rude not to share,” he growls.
His tongue forces its way into my mouth, searching out all remains of caramel ice cream.
I lick my lips and give him a smirk. “Want some more?” I ask, lifting the carton between us.
At his nod, I sit up and scoop another spoonful of ice cream.
“Kaleb!” I cry out, my left hand clinging to his shoulder.
Strong hands grip my ass, lifting me into the air and on to his lap. He kneels below me, resting his ass on the heels of his feet.
