Julia shook her head as she glanced at the door. “No, I…”
The door opened, and a rush of cool air raced past her, sending a shiver down her spine.
Kyle stepped inside, his eyes darting between Worthington and Julia. “Hey.”
She huffed out a breath. “Kyle! Where have you been?”
“Out for a walk,” he answered. “How are you feeling?”
“Fine, how are you feeling? You just had surgery. You shouldn’t be up.”
“Julia, I’m fine. I’m a doctor. I know how far I can push myself.”
Julia shook her head. “You shouldn’t be pushing yourself at all. You should be in bed.”
“All right. I’m going. I just wanted a little fresh air.”
“I’ll walk you up. There’s something I wanted to talk to you about.”
“Sure,” he said, sliding his arm around her waist as he guided her toward the stairs.
“Worthington, if Grant comes in, please tell him I’d like to see him,” Julia said as they mounted the stairs.
“Of course, Mrs. Harrington,” Worthington said with a nod.
“What’s up?” Kyle said as they reached the upstairs.
“Come with me,” Julia said, motioning for him to follow her to her office. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Julia, I’m fine,” he insisted as she closed the door behind them. “But you’re not. What’s wrong?”
She flicked a concerned gaze to her stepson, her features pinched. “I need your help with something, but Ireallyneed you to be discreet. I need to know I can trust you with this.”
His features scrunched. “Of course, you can, Julia.”
“I’m serious. This is really sensitive. I need you to promise that you won’t breathe a word of this to anyone.”
“You’re scaring me a little bit,” he said as he eased into a chair with a wince.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Julia, stop avoiding whatever it is that’s got you wound up.”
She slid into her desk chair and blew out a breath. “Before Lydia and I got into the fight that started the fire–”
“Wait, you and Lydia got into a fight?”
“Don’t ask. But yes. We got into a cat fight. That’s what started the fire. Anyway, before that, she said something…something that…I need confirmation of.”
He shifted in his chair. “Absolutely. Is there something she said about me?”
Julia’s features pinched as she recalled the words, turmoil roiling within her. “No. She said…she claims Sierra isn’t Grant’s daughter.”
His eyebrows flicked up, his features incredulous. “What?”
“Yeah. I just…I’m not going to tell Grant if it’s a lie.”
Kyle sucked in a breath. “You want me to have a DNA test run.”
