Page 34 of Blake University: HBCU Chronicles – Yon & Imole

Yon and Imole

They sat under their favorite oak tree near The Quad, Imole resting her head on Yon's shoulder while he absentmindedly twirled her curls around his finger.

A year had passed, and they were still solid and stronger.

He kissed her temple.

“You ever think about what would’ve happened if you’d never spoken up?”

Imole smiled, fingers grazing the pendant around her neck.

“Every day. But I’m glad I did. We wouldn't be here if I didn’t.”

They weren’t just campus royalty anymore. They were leaders and mentors. Imole was heading to law school in the fall with a full scholarship, and Yon had entered the NFL Draft. He was expected to be a first round draft pick. Imole was so proud of him, and he was always the supportive, loving boyfriend. No matter what happened next, they were building a future together.

Ace and Lala

Ace and Lala were still the loudest couple on campus and the most ride-or-die.

Lala had taken on a new role as VP of Student Advocacy and helped push for more transparency in Greek Life policies. Ace? Still running the yard like a general, now mentoring new Megas with a softer heart and a sharper mind.

They argued often, laughed louder, and loved each other through it all.

"We’re not perfect," Lala often said, "but damn, we’re real."

Porkchop and Stormii

Surprisingly, Porkchop and Stormi stayed in touch.

After the trial, Stormii moved to a quieter college and focused on therapy, rebuilding herself from the inside out. She’d changed to a more grounded, introspective, less consumed with appearances person.

Porkchop would hit her up every few weeks. At first, it was to check in. But lately, it was more than that, talks about books, movies, life.

He smiled when her name lit up his phone.

"She ain't who she used to be," he once told Yon. "But honestly, neither am I."

Gravy

Gravy made history as one of the first openly gay members of Mega Phi Psi.

What shocked everyone most was how unbothered he was about it.

"I came here to be myself, not somebody’s stereotype," he said when the chapter voted unanimously to keep him in line.

Now, Gravy was in a healthy relationship with his boyfriend Devon, a graphic design major who made custom jackets for all the Megas after they crossed.

Gravy and Devon were often seen laughing, creating, holding hands like it was nothing special and maybe that’s what made it so special.

The Mega Phi Psi House was packed for their annual cookout. Music bounced, burgers sizzled, and the new line, dubbed The Rebirth. It carried both the weight and the pride of a chapter that had fought to evolve.

Imole stood with Lala, plates in hand, watching Yon and Ace playfully argue over ribs.

Gravy danced by the grill. Porkchop snuck off for a phone call.

And for the first time in a long time, everything felt light again.

Because justice didn’t just mean punishment. It meant healing, growth, and a positive future.

And they were finally living it.

The End
