Epilogue

Black Star waited nervously. This was her time. Hers and Sword Breaker ’s. The chips had, indeed, held more significance than she’d first thought. There were so many things she hadn’t known when everything that made her a sentient, living being had been thrust inside a techno prison. Now, she wasn’t sure she wanted to know it all.

But it was there. She’d hacked into Samair’s personal archives. It was all there, just as it had happened twenty years before. Every detail. Every betrayal.

None of it mattered now. She and her beloved would soon be free from their bonds. Free, and back in their bodies. Even now, the doctors were using cells from their brain stems to create two perfect clones of the selves they had been. They simply grew them without brains, then used the genetic and neurological mapping specific to each of them inside the chips from Phoebe and Diamond to transplant their brains into the living clones. If all went well, they’d have their bodies back.

She reached out to Darian. Sword Breaker . Her soul mate. His excitement mirrored hers. Soon, they’d be united.

Soon. They’d be…

United .
