“Too soon to say. Not sure he’s as naive about black orchids as he’d like us to believe.”

“That niggled at me too.”

“At least we’re walking away with something.” She held up the paper Josh had given her. “Stephanie Piper and Luke Hogan. Right now, though, we better head over for the autopsy.”

Trent got them on the road.

“How did you know what a Snap VidPic brand ambassador was?” The question spilled out.

Trent didn’t look at her, but it was clear from his profile that he was grinning. At least he found her ignorance amusing.

“Come on, tell me.”

“You know that younger sister I’ve told you about before?”

“The Jabba girl?”

“That’s the one.” He glanced over at her. “She’s the only reason I know what it is. She was a brand ambassador on Instagram.”

She fought the urge to laugh but lost the battle.

“Glad you find this so amusing,” he said.

“You have any idea how old I was feeling in there?” Laughing felt great, like all the tension and stress was releasing from her body.

“Oh, I see what this is. It’s misery loving company. Glad I could make you feel better about yourself.” He winked at her.

In that instant, her stomach fluttered. What the heck? She continued to stare at his profile as he drove, completely confused by her reaction. Trent was handsome by anyone’s standards, with his neatly trimmed blond hair and blue eyes. He had a nice jawline and kept himself in good shape.

But this was Trent! That flutter had to have meant nothing. Maybe indigestion, her last coffee not sitting well. After all, Trent was like a second brother she didn’t have. To think of him as anything more was utterly ridiculous. Preposterous.

She shook aside all insane notions about Trent and buried her nose in the piece of paper.
