Page 36 of Behind the Scenes
She’s so perfect. And so cute when flustered.
“Not an option, darling. Remember the public appearance clause? We need to be seen. Not many people know much about the movie yet, even with thataccidenton set, so being caughton camera will be perfect PR.”
Her eyes searched mine before she let out a huff, her typing completely forgotten now.
“That kind of PR only works if you’re seen with your co-star. Not some random lawyer.”
“Not some random lawyer,” I said as I leaned forward. “Mygirlfriend.”
She rolled her eyes.
“Aren’t you embarrassed? To force me into this contract?”
“You had options,” I pointed out. “And no. I saw what I wanted, and I made sure I got it.”
“I hardly call jail an option,” she replied with a huff.
I leaned back in my chair, looking at her up and down.
“Are you really so sure that’s where you’d end up?” I asked, cocking my brow. “Especially with yourtalents?”
“What are you insinuating?” Her tone was sharp, the narrowing of her eyes even sharper.
I merely sent her a smile.
“Maybe just that I intrigued you,” I said. “And that’s why you signed the contract. Not because of blackmail or any other obligations. Because for the first time in your life, someone made your heart beat faster.”
“I could tell you not to flatter yourself, but that would be a waste of time.”
She let out a noise of indignation and turned to her computer again. I didn’t reply, choosing to let her stew.
There was only one thing I loved more than seeing her angry, and that was witnessing her denial.
Watching as she desperately tried to rationalize this thing between us.
And failed.
“The flights have been delayed?” I asked into the phone. Penelope was helping Laura get her bags from the plane, and she gave me a look, knowing all too well what I was up to.
Just because she stuck around and didn't tell anyone about my true nature didn't mean that she always agreed with my schemes.
Laura watched me as I listened to the person on the other end of the line.
“That’s okay.” I replied. “I can keep myself busy tonight, and we can start tomorrow. I’ll see you then. Let me know if anything else changes.”
Laura’s eyes narrowed in my direction as I hung up.
“Don't tell me there’s been a change of plans now.” Her voice held enough suspicion to make my lips twitch.
“Just a bit.” I gave her a smile and motioned for her to enter the black SUV that was already waiting for us on the tarmac. “But I know you're tired, so I'll get us to the hotel room ASAP so you can rest. Maybe order some room service?”
Laura grabbed her bag from Penelope and held it over her shoulder before walking past me with a scoff.
I fucking love it when she’s pissed off.
“I'm on a fucking tropical island,” she hissed at me. “You're crazy if you think I'm going to stay in a hotel and order room service.”
I raised a brow at her. I was pretty sure she knew how crazy I was by now.
