Alicia chuckles softly. “I think our government representatives back on Earth would be pretty impressed by what the four of us have managed to accomplish here under these particular circumstances.”

“And to think that all we ever did was go out in a drunken fever for a skinny-dipping session in the ocean,” Cynthia quips.

“Yes, that was not a good idea,” I laugh. “But then again, it brought us here. It brought me here. To Binzen and Izzo. To Valen. And now, to this wonderful, red-skinned miracle. Gosh, he’s gorgeous,” I add, swooning over my newborn son. “I will burn the whole of Sunna down to protect him. Y’all realize that, right?”

“I think you’ve got each and every single Sunnaite in this tribe plus three remarkably fierce human women joining you on that particular mission,” Binzen says.

I know we still have a long way to go. I also know we were able to adapt and even thrive in an otherwise harsh environment. And while there are constantly people working hard to hunt us down and imprison us so they might use us as breeders, there are people working twice as hard to protect us and to help build a better world for the surviving children.

It will not be easy. It will get messy and bloody. It will scare the crap out of me, I know that, too. But I love my two warriors and this weird and wonderful family we’ve somehow managed to build despite the constant adversity. I love my friends and each of our allies.

And if I never see Earth again in this lifetime, well, I’m okay with that.

As long as I have my family and my closest, greatest friends by my side.
