“That’s your weapon of choice with the direction of this conversation? Silence?”
I turn my head and smile genuinely. “I find that’s best in many situations.”
“True.” Capri shifts in the mud, getting comfortable. “I don’t share this with most people because it’s no one’s business, but Zane and I hooked up right after we met. Our chemistry was off the charts. You and Caspian have that same intensity.”
I chew my lip, almost changing the subject, but decide that girl talk is exactly what I need right now. “I haven’t felt chemistry like this, maybe ever, but I’m at work, and so is he.”
“I was on a job, and so was Zane. Sometimes we just have to give in and see where life takes us. Is it so bad having a great time with someone?”
She has a point.
Capri tilts her head thoughtfully. “All I’m saying is that there’s clearly something there. Zane has mentioned it every day since dinner.”
“He has?”
“And Nash has done the same with Rebecca.”
“That, I believe. It’s like he’s trying to play matchmaker. Every time I turn around, Nash has Caspian working with me. Not that I mind.”
For some reason, I’m not ready to share our steamy kiss or the way I can’t stop thinking about him. Which spells trouble.
Because that means I’m actually developing feelings for the guy.
Chapter 9
Caspian
“E5 to B1.”
“This is B1.”
“I placed a delivery at your door.”
“Copy.”
Alex opens her door to find me standing here with two hot chocolates and a folded piece of paper.
“For you.” I hand her a cup of hot chocolate and lean against the door frame. “From Leo.”
With feigned suspicion, she narrows her eyes at the cup and asks, “Should I trust it?”
“Absolutely.” I shove a piece of paper at her. “Also, he insisted I give this note to you.”
“Come on in.”
She closes the door behind me and heads to the couch, where her iPad sits open next to a spiral notebook and several colored pens. With mock seriousness, she sits down and unfolds the handwritten note.
Dear Ms. Tate,
I’m sorry for taking your hat and screaming at you twice and knocking over your water. Caspian says you are a good human. Maybe you are.
Leo
“He even signed it.” Her blue eyes sparkle as she bites back a laugh.
Shrugging, I respond, “I think the dirt hoof print gives it a little something extra.”
Alex tosses the note toward the coffee table and lunges at me across the cushions. Our mouths collide in a hungry kiss, her mouth opening instantly to me. Her taste is what I’ve been craving since our couch make-out session earlier.
