Page 58 of Arresting the Hockey Player
I had real feelings for her, and she screwed it all up. Serves me right for thinking I might one day have a girlfriend again.
Women always disappoint.
First, Jasmine, cheating on me and marrying that sinister jackhole, Brass.
The shower water is hot, scalding, and leaving my skin red, but I feel numb as it pounds down over me from head to toe.
And the sweet, adorable Charlotte showing her true cunning colors when the cat claws came out to destroy me.
She’s sorry.
Pfft.
I don’t buy it. Sorry doesn’t excuse or negate what she did. She put my son back into the arms of his abuser.
I wash my hair and soap up my body as the water cools down before it becomes chilled. I shut off the spray and grab a towel to wrap around my waist before stepping from the bathroom into my bedroom.
I’m not the least bit tired, but I need to sleep if I’m going to be meeting with Malone in the morning, which reminds me that I need to answer his text.
Heading toward my dresser, I grab a pair of boxers and then slip them on after towel-drying myself the rest of the way down.
I grab my phone from the bed, and my messages have blown up. There are dozens of texts from my teammates. It seems they’ve all heard about the arrest by now.
I reply to Malone, letting him know that I’ll be there bright and early, just for him.
Collapsing on the mattress, my phone in hand, I stare at the ceiling before going through the messages. Practically every teammate on the Ice Dragons texted me along with the main group chat that Kyler formed with a few of the guys he’s closest with.
Kyler: Did she seriously call the cops and have you arrested?
Jasper: Arrested?!? Who was arrested?
Parker: Surprisingly, not you!
Jasper: Not funny. WHO WAS ARRESTED?
Kyler: Stop the caps!
Asher: Well, you didn’t answer him.
Jasper: THANK YOU.
Asher: Okay, now it’s getting annoying.
Parker: Chase?
Kyler: You would think that, but nope.
Aiden: Are you going to make us guess?
Parker: Who is in the chat but hasn’t responded yet?
Jasper: Noah!
Asher: Noah
Aiden: Owen
Kyler: Two out of three ain’t bad.
