Rolling over, I reached for it on the nightstand and noticed Low was right with me, hovering over my body to read the name on my screen.
“You got lucky.” He rolled off me after seeing that it was my father and crawled from the bed toward the bathroom. “I got just enough energy to pull up on a nigga for hitting yo’ phone tonight,” he called over his shoulder.
Shaking my head in humor, I answered for my dad.
“Yo’ mama said you had something to ask me, baby,” he said, letting out a sigh as if he wasn’t the least bit interested in what I had to say. That immediately put me on the defensive.
“Tell, not ask.” I sat up some, clutching my iPhone.
“Excuse me?”
“Not like that, Daddy. I mean, I don’t feel like I should have to ask you this at all. I want to have dinner with you and Mommy, plus Low. Every time one of my brothers got serious, you asked for them to bring their significant other, but I have to be the one to ask for mine.”
“Your brothers didn’t sneak around, Banks. Your brothers’ significant others didn’t keep secrets or do shit behind my back,” he stated as Low rejoined me in the bed.
“Okay, but he did that because I asked him to. You want me with a man who would go against what I want to please you?”
“On occasion, yes, because the shit might be life threatening.”
“But this wasn’t, Daddy. At the end of the day, I have been a good daughter, graduating college, excelling in dance, and doing everything else right, which you have said yourself.
Not to mention, I’m grown. I shouldn’t have to hide anything at all because my family will come behind me like cavemen.
Honestly, I don’t feel like I am being given the respect I deserve and have earned.
If it was gonna be like this, I should’ve slacked off and been some spoiled brat enjoying my parents’ money and making rash decisions since it seems that’s what you all think of me anyway. ”
My father was silent, which was a shock in itself. He usually always had something to say.
“Is Saturday straight?”
I grinned widely and gradually hearing him concede.
“One second.” I pulled the phone from my face. “Is Saturday okay for dinner with my parents?”
“I got you.” Low nodded to confirm.
“Yes, that’s cool, Daddy.”
“Aight. And aye, I’m proud of you. You’ve exceeded the expectations I had for a daughter, so don’t ever think I believe otherwise, princess.
It’s just I’m ya father, and I love you more than life itself, so I don’t want shit happening to you, and I don’t want a muthafucka doing anything to you or hurting you, even if it’s just emotionally.
I’d rather you be upset with me than fucked over. ”
“Low would never. I could have any man I want, so if I choose a certain one, it’s for a reason.”
“He talk a good game, so we gon’ see. He better be on his shit come Saturday.”
“He always is,” I shot back, and my dad paused before chuckling to himself.
We hung up, and after setting my phone back down on my nightstand, I lay on Low’s chest.
“I hate that you on the outs with yo’ people, Peep. Y’all too close for that.”
“We are, and that’s why we will be fine.
Don’t even think about feeling bad.” I picked my head up some so he could look into my eyes as I talked.
“You haven’t done anything wrong. You kept a secret, but just like my brothers’ loyalty is to their wives, yours is to me.
Couple months from now, this will be a thing of the past.” I leaned up to kiss him before lying back on his good smelling chest.
“I hope so.”
“If not? You’re gonna wanna break up with me so that you don’t come between us?” I rolled my eyes jokingly as he snickered subtly.
“Never. They love you too much to be estranged from you for too long. And once they see how much a nigga l—care for you, I’m hoping they’ll calm that shit down.”
“They will,” I responded absentmindedly, wondering if he was about to say the L word or if I was just tripping.
“Did you fuck Rue last year?”
He was so quiet that I almost thought he didn’t hear me until I listened to him expel a beleaguered sigh.
“I did. How you even know that?”
“Ran into her at the library, and she told me in effort to convince me that you still weren’t shit. I’d told her she didn’t know you anymore, and that was her rebuttal.”
“It was well before us.”
“I know. It was last year.” I hugged his torso tighter. “I only asked to see if you’d tell me.”
“I’ll tell you anything you wanna know, Peep.”
I wanted to ask if he’d almost said he loved me but decided against it. He would tell me when he felt comfortable doing so, and now clearly wasn’t that time.
“She was so obsessed with you, seemingly still is, so how did you get her to leave you be?”
“Fucked her best friend Koi in a threesome. I don’t know if you met her.”
I gasped.
“I remember her! They were like Siamese twins almost. Anytime you saw Rue, there was Koi, and she always had her back. Crazy she wasn’t a true friend.” I shook my head, ear brushing Low’s chest as I did so.
It was crazy how friendship went out the window once dick was involved.
“She def wasn’t. She’d been trying to get fucked for a minute, and when Rue wouldn’t leave me alone after I broke up with her ass, I figured that would do the trick.”
“So you did it on purpose.” I sat up, pressing my chin into the back of my hand as it rested on him. “That was so fucked up.”
“I was a fucked-up nigga back then, Peep.” He pushed my hair behind my ear as he regarded me for a bit. “And ultimately, it worked. Got her to leave me alone for the most part.”
“What kind of nigga are you now, Willow?”
“Yo’ nigga.”
Simpering, I asked, “Are you my fucked-up nigga or my good nigga?”
“Good.” He pulled me up to him so he could kiss me. “Always and only for you.”
We started to kiss heavily as his hand slipped between my legs, forcing them apart.
“Low, no. I’m sore, and we just changed the sheets.”
“I’m just gon’ eat it on the floor.” He sucked my jaw before dragging his warm mouth down to my chest then nipples.
In the mood for exactly that, I let him coax me to the floor before hiking my knees up so he could lick my pussy and ass senseless.
