CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

Bridget Fournier and Sally Blaisedale spotted Charlie at the table farthest from the door as soon as they walked into Good Cup Coffee.

“Thanks for coming,” Charlie said. Bridget thought he sounded nervous.

“We shouldn’t be having these meetings,” Bridget said.

“I know,” Charlie answered. “Henry was furious when I took you to see Guido without telling him.”

“I assume you didn’t tell him you were meeting me.”

“No. Did you tell Grant?”

“No.”

“Neither one of us knows who we can trust. Henry didn’t tell me that Max Unger was a client, Thomas Grant made sure that Guido isn’t in custody, and who knows who else is trying to get back whatever Guido took from the safe?”

“After what happened at the farm, you don’t have to sell me,” Bridget said. “So, why are we having this secret meeting?”

“I think that the men who are after Guido are desperate by now. They know that Guido is unpredictable and could turn over the item at any time. Judge Noonan is hearing pretrial motions in Guido’s case. That means that Guido is going to be traveling to court and back to the farm. If there’s going to be another attempt to kidnap him, it’s going to be on the day of the hearing.”

“That makes sense,” Sally said.

“What do you want us to do?” Bridget asked.
