M y dear Lady Beaverbrook:
I hope this finds you well.
Your last letter was even more captivating than the previous ones. I thank you so heartily for your including me so generously in your correspondence with Miss Somerton. It’s thrilling to think my poem might truly be helpful in the Scholars’ treasure hunt.
Pierce still hopes it is books but I know Mr. Peters and some of the others are hoping for gems or gold or something a little more tangible. Lincoln Welby is certain it is somehow connected to some books that went missing from Oxford so your correspondence with Miss Somerton should be most informative.
I do hope we will be able to meet in person one day. My aunt would say that Pierce and I ought to have waited longer to wed so that we could have everyone attend our marriage ceremony but we were just too eager to get on with our lives. And I’ve heard nearly every one of the married scholars is expecting a happy occurrence soon, so it wouldn’t have been a kindness to ask everyone to travel in any case.
I know you are occupied with your husband’s cousins but it would be delightful if we could arrange a meeting in the summertime. I think my home might be quite centrally located and should be able to hold everyone as long as your girls are willing to squeeze in together.
Have you heard from Mr. Welby? It would seem he has made some interesting scientific discoveries in addition to his hunt for the treasure. But I should leave that for him to tell.
I will admit to you, my life has never been so full. Should we ever let Lucy know how grateful we are to her? Roderick has warned me not to as he’s afraid she will set herself up as a matchmaker in quite an official capacity. Pierce says we ought to encourage it but then Roderick threatens to sabotage his instruments and it ends the conversation immediately.
I will forward the latest investigation results to you as soon as I have interpreted the gentlemen’s scrawls.
Your obedient servant,
Mrs. Greta Darby
