Finn (Fionnachd) Shannon: a pooka who tends to have trouble follow him. Diego’s lover and later husband.
Féileacán: small fae who can appear as tiny firefly lights or as more human-scale fae. They have delicate, translucent wings and tend to be playful. Féileacán find their mates, their literal other halves within moments of birth or they die.
Fomorian: Beast-gifted fae, ruled by King Balor. Unlike the sidhe, they only have one form, wearing their animal features at all times. Their court lies in a vast cave system across the river from the sidhe court.

Limpet: a selkie who follows Diego back from the wild fae lands.
Miriam Thorpe: Diego’s publishing agent and friend. Based in New York, but has a family home in New Brunswick.

Scath: a blue féileacán who befriends Diego. Mated to Croi.
Sidhe: While they have a beast nature like the Fomorians, the sidhe separate their fae and beast forms and can shift between one and the other at will. Ruled by Queen Danu, they live in the trees and thickets of the forest.
Silver Adepts: the name a coven of five untrained witches give themselves as they repeatedly request that Diego teach them. His gentle refusals end up having dire consequences.

Theo Aguilar: young vampire turned vigilante. Originally recruited by the Dark Mage. After Diego is returned to himself, Theo agrees to work as Consulate security.
Veil: the barrier between the human and fae worlds.
Once semi-permeable so that humans could cross at certain places and times, Danu closed the Veil during the Industrial Revolution to protect the fae.
She believed the closure to be permanent, and it had disastrous effects since the magics of both worlds need to be able to move across the Veil freely.
William (Will) Schoenberg: a seer with uncontrolled powers. One of the Silver Adepts and Brandon’s lover.
Zack Morrison: once a sergeant in the USMC, assigned nursing duties at the Institute for Extraterrestrial Research (not usual for the Marines, but specially trained as an LPN to keep exposure of the project to the minimum number of government branches.) Becomes Diego’s ally and eventually friend.
Later head of security for Tearmann Island and later still, human consul to the Fae Collective.
Bitten and infected during a werewolf attack.
