Page 17 of Affections & Wishes
Was that shower really only two weeks ago? Elizabeth thought, looking at the man next to her, the man who she had somehow come to adore beyond reason. Darcy was absolutely everything that any woman could want in a man. Did he have an unfortunate tendency to stick his foot in his mouth? Yes, he did, but he made up for it by telling her, in words, and in deeds, just how much she meant to him, daily.
They were in her apartment now, and she was leafing through her mail, groaning when she saw a telltale square envelope with a pink baby duck on the back flap. “Another baby shower, for Louisa this time,” she said, the storm of pink glitter that had emerged from the envelope almost making her sneeze. “And that confetti was likely the harbinger of all the delights to come, I am sure.”
“When is it? Am I invited?” Darcy asked, looking surprisingly interested.
“It’s co-ed, so I’d say there’s a good chance you will be. If not, you could always be my plus one.”
“Excellent,” Darcy replied. He came up behind her, moving her hair and kissing her neck. “Better get your game face on then, Bennet. I’ve already got my wager in mind.”
She turned in his arms, putting her arms around his neck. “You know, at this rate, I could come to like these things.”
